Custodial TechnicianThe Custodial Technician is part of Vanderbilt University Maintenance and Operations (VUMO) and is an individual contributor responsible for performing specialized housekeeping and cleaning duties in various buildings across the Vanderbilt University campus. This position reports directly to the Housekeeping Supervisor and works in partnership with all departments across the university.VUMO provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.The Custodial Technician role is assigned to perform higher level and more specialized custodial duties throughout the Vanderbilt University campus.Key Functions and Expected Performance:Perform special assignments independentlySpot/wet mop floorsSweep/dust mop/vacuum floorsOperate upright and backpack vacuumSpot clean carpeted surfacesHigh/low dustingWipe/clean both horizontal and vertical surfacesCollect and transport trash/waste to central locationCollect recycling (in "assist" buildings) and transport to central location in buildingRefill dispensersClean appliances (when requested)Clean plumbing fixturesClean & service waterless urinalsDispense cleaning chemicals from J-fill stationMove and arrange furnitureMaintain individual custodial closet supplies inventory and request supplies and equipment as neededIdentify building minor maintenance problems and annotate on the Building Routine Inspection formNotify supervisor when maintenance repairs are neededTurn on and off lights, and assigned equipmentUnlock/lock assigned spacesComplete labor data entry sheet as requiredRespond to custodial emergency calls in assigned buildingsPerform custodial duties in support of eventsSnow removal from entrances of assigned buildingRefinish hard surface flooringOperate carpet extractors, buffers, pressure washersOperate walk behind equipment used for routine floor cleaningOperate and perform operator maintenance level to vehicle, if one assigned for daily dutiesOther duties related to classificationSupervisory Relationships:This position does not have supervisory responsibility, this position reports administratively and functionally to the Housekeeping Supervisor.Education and Certifications:High School Diploma or GED is required.Valid Driver License is required; must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
