About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant specializing in Thoracic Surgery for a Locum Tenens assignment supporting inpatient thoracic surgery services. This is a night shift, no call opportunity where the PA will manage post operative patients across the inpatient floor, step down, OR & ICU settings while working independently with overnight fellow support available.

• Evaluate & manage thoracic surgery patients during overnight shifts
• Care for post operative patients on the inpatient floor
• Manage patients transitioning from the Step down unit, OR & ICU
• Perform patient assessments & follow up evaluations
• Manage chest tubes, Blake drains & pigtails
• Perform ABGs as clinically appropriate
• Manage NGT, G tube & J tube patients
• Complete H&Ps for patients transferred from outside hospitals
• Recognize & respond to urgent clinical situations
• Serve as a first responder when necessary until the fellow arrives
• Collaborate with the overnight thoracic surgery fellow
• Coordinate care with nursing & multidisciplinary teams
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation
• Provide safe, timely patient care within scope of practice

• 2 to 3 shifts per week
• 12 hour night shifts
• 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Monday through Sunday coverage
• Scheduled shifts with No Call
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• Assignment duration: approximately 5 to 6 months
• 8 hour non billable orientation

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• NCCPA certification required
• Minimum 1 year of PA experience
• Thoracic Surgery experience required
• ACLS certification required
• BLS certification required
• Experience managing chest tubes, Blake drains & pigtails preferred
• Experience with ABGs, NGT, G tube & J tube management preferred
• Ability to work independently in an inpatient environment
• Strong clinical judgment & ability to respond to urgent situations
• DEA registration required per job overview
