Join our dynamic team at our newest club location, the Julie & Mike Connors Workforce Readiness Center located in Dreher Park, West Palm Beach.
The Assistant Club Director (ACD) supports the Executive Club Director (ECD) in leading, managing, directing, and monitoring overall Club operations, including safety, high-quality programming, grant compliance, member experience, service delivery, and youth outcomes.
The ACD develops, plans, and oversees the implementation of age-appropriate Club programs and activities that promote positive Youth Development Outcomes, including Academic Success, Health and Life Skills, and Good Character and Citizenship. This role provides coaching and support to ensure effective program planning and delivery, maintains program integrity, helps meet grant objectives, fosters positive relationships with stakeholders, and contributes to the overall success of Club operations.
In the absence of the ECD, the ACD assumes responsibility for Club operations and assists with all duties and responsibilities of the Executive Club Director.
Key Roles (Essential Responsibilities):
- Evaluate Club experience, activities and program effectiveness through monthly pulse checks, NYOI data, and two annual Program Quality Assessments, and collaborate with the Vice President of Impact to drive continuous program quality improvement. Provide direct supervision to Athletic Coordinators, Wellbeing and Life Skills Coordinators, Teachers, Program Assistants, and Program Volunteers. Conduct daily coaching and monthly staff training focused on youth development practices. Monitor and support staff to ensure consistent, high-quality program implementation. Monitor, manage, report program outcomes and performance metrics on a weekly basis with a score card to ensure programs successfully meet established goals and objectives related to Academic Success, Sports & Wellness, Wellbeing and Life-Skills, STEM, and Cultural Arts.
- Build and maintain 50 partnerships with organizations, including Prime Time, the Cox Science Center and Aquarium, and the Palm Beach Zoo, to expand in-club and out-of-club opportunities and enhance program offerings in Academic Success, Sports & Wellness, Wellbeing and Life Skills, STEM, and Cultural Arts. Plan and successfully execute a minimum of 2–4 field trips per month during afterschool and summer programming, including no-cost opportunities, ensuring that all participating youth have regular and equitable opportunities to attend and engage.
- Support the development and successful implementation of a comprehensive recruitment strategy to engage 400 K–5 youth annually and ensure an average daily attendance of 220 participants.
- Strategically communicate with and support families to successfully implement the “Everyday Counts” campaign, ensuring K–5 members attend the Club at least 4 days per week and remain for the full duration of the program. Review attendance daily , communicate regularly with families, and use attendance data to make informed decisions that improve participation and retention. Develop daily and weekly program schedules in collaboration with program staff to ensure strong implementation and member engagement. Review youth program interest data, club events, attendance trends, and club rosters to make informed decisions about program offerings and scheduling. Promote and market programs to Club members and families through meetings, announcements, bulletin boards, flyers, mailings, posted schedules, and other communication methods to maximize participation.
- Build strong relationship with the leadership of key feeder schools.
- Create and implement a minimum of 6–8 special drop-in program offerings annually, including Sports/ Skills & Drills Camps, Arts & Dance Activities Camps, and STEM Camps. Coordinate successful program execution, community outreach, and recruitment efforts to engage new members and increase overall program participation.
- Collaborate and communicate on a bi- monthly basis with leadership staff at targeted partner schools, including Conniston Middle School, Forest Hill High School, South Olive Elementary, Belvedere Elementary, and Palmetto Elementary, to strengthen partnerships and support the recruitment and retention of at least 400 K -5 youth annually . Coordinate BGC staff participation in a minimum of 2 school events or meetings per month , facilitate at least 20 Club tours annually for school partners and families, and support ongoing cross-promotion of Club programs and services to increase youth engagement and enrollment.
- Assist with the planning, execution, and collection of program data to support performance measures and report outcomes. Prepare and submit accurate program reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, or as required by grants, leadership, and organizational needs.
- Works with the ECD during crisis situations and takes action to resolve conflicts, disputes and concerns of staff, club members, volunteers, and parents.
- Aligns the club programming strategy to organizational program tracks and training framework.
- Support the evaluation of staff performance through regular observations, coaching, and feedback. Assist with completing performance reviews at least annually and recommend professional development, promotion, corrective action, discipline, or discharge as appropriate.
- Provides the guidance necessary to maintain discipline and acceptable behaviors in the Club.
- Ingrain the five key elements for positive youth development into the Club’s culture, including a safe and positive environment, fun, recognition, supportive relationships, and opportunities and expectations. Lead and conduct a monthly member recognition program, including identifying and celebrating the Member of the Month to promote positive behavior, engagement, leadership, and Club participation.
- Assesses the needs, interests, and characteristics of the youth to develop targeted programs that result in an outcome-driven club experience.
- Champions staff development in social emotional learning and ensure that practices are prioritized in all aspects of Club operations.
- Recommends requisition of supplies and equipment and maintains a safe environment.
- Assists in the supervision of the care, maintenance and cleanliness of equipment, building, grounds and vehicles.
- Maintains high performance expectations for all team members that fosters a culture of safety, teamwork, respect, excellence, integrity, and innovation.
- Administers CPR & First Aid as necessary.
Relationships:
- Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer) Club members and Supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions ; instruct and advise/counsel.
- External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving challenges.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
- A minimum of two 3 years of direct youth service leadership experience and a demonstrable record of planning and implementing youth programs. Previous experience working with at-risk youth is preferred, as is a background in education.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Six (6) + years of professional experience in Youth Development, Education, or related field
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Proven ability to creatively plan, coordinate, and evaluate quality youth programs directly and through collaborations. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other departments/organizations deliver quality programs to club members and potential members.
- At least 3 years of demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience at a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization.
- Demonstrated ability to train, orient and recognize staff, volunteers and outside resources.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, in presentations to an audience, and electronically.
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong administrative skills/experience required.
- Certificate of first aid and CPR.
- Valid Florida driver’s license – must be able to meet insurance requirements.
- CDL, Class B Florida license with passenger & air brake endorsements and a safe driving record preferred. (Will be required to obtain license within 6 months to drive on a regular basis) Must be willing to drive 15 passenger sprinter van.
- Ability to distinguish when time to discipline and time to counsel members (good judgment).
- Ability to be creative with programs, members, room decor, etc.
- Skills for planning and initiating activities based on youth developmental and community needs.
