Job Description Summary The Admissions Officer is responsible for the admission and recruitment of domestic first-year applicants, includingrecruitment travel, as well as application evaluation. Thisposition is also responsible for assisting with the coordinationand staffing of on-campus programs and online events forprospective students. The number of first-year applications thatthe Admissions Officer reviews ranges from one thousand to twothousand annually. Essential Functions Reads and evaluates applications for undergraduate admission;makes decisions or refers to either the Associate Directors orDirectors of Admissions Conducts recruitment travel; participates in high schoolvisits, college fairs, regional interviews and other regionalrecruitment events. Provides guidance, expertise and recommendations to prospectivestudents, parents, alumni, and college counselors; conductsoutreach to this population. Conducts on-campus information sessions and interviews forprospective students and their parents; gives overview ofuniversity programs/majors, student life and the admissionsprocess. Participates in campus and online events. Develops and implements recruitment strategy and plans for aspecific geographic area. Analyzes results of previous years’activities and then develops and executes a comprehensive,integrated plan for both fall and spring travel/visits/events eachyear involving outreach to prospective students, parents, highschool counselors, alumni and others. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Full-time. 35 hours per week. Evening and weekend work required. Salary Range $58,000.00 - $60,000.00 annually. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree. Less than 1 year of relevant experience. Professional experience in admissions or related areas. Preferred Education and Experience Master's degree or equivalent. 1 - 3 years of relevant experience. Travel Required Yes, travel is required. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Knowledge of trends and practices in higher education. Writing ability. Ability to represent the University and demonstrate highlydeveloped interpersonal and public speaking skills. Demonstrated problem solving ability. Computer skills. Organizational skills and ability to conduct demographic andhistorical research as it pertains to American University’sapplicant trends. Ability to contribute to a team-oriented environment within theOffice of Enrollment.
