The Mental Health Professional plays a crucial role in providing clinical care and support to individuals experiencing SUD and mental health challenges. Responsible for conducting diagnostic assessments, providing risk assessments, therapeutic groups, and consultation to the treatment team to promote mental and emotional well-being of our clients. Mental Health Professional Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct thorough mental health assessments for all new intakes to evaluate clients’ emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Lead group psychoeducation sessions as directed by NorthStar Regional curriculum. Provide immediate crisis intervention and support to clients in acute distress, ensuring their safety and emotional stability. Facilitate individual counseling sessions, as needed, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques to assist clients in managing and resolving mental health issues. Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, social workers, and case managers, to coordinate comprehensive care for clients. Educate clients about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies to promote better understanding and self-management. Advocate for clients’ needs within the healthcare system and community resources, helping them access appropriate services and support, including but not limited to connecting them to individual therapy, case management services, ARMHS services, etc. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and competence in delivering care to clients from diverse backgrounds. Maintain thorough and confidential client records, ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations. Continuous maintenance and improvement of Organizational and Therapeutic Culture: Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Spirituality, Excellence (R.A.I.S.E!). All other duties as assigned. Mental Health Professional Minimum Qualifications At least 18 years of age High school diploma or GED Master’s degree or higher in a mental health-related field (e.g., Psychology, Counseling, Social Work). State licensure or certification as a mental health professional as defined in MN Statue section 245I.04, subdivision 2 (e.g., Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist). Strong clinical assessment and therapeutic skills. Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic interventions and treatment modalities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Commitment to ethical and professional standards in mental health practice. Consent to background check and be cleared by DHS to work within a human services program. Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and boundaries. Ability to adhere to NSR Mission, Vision, and Values. Must be free from problematic chemical use including strict adherence to NSR’s drug‑free workplace policy. Comply with all 245G/245I/245F, MN Statute 148F.165, all other governance statutes as applicable & all program policies and procedures including Client Needs, and acknowledge understanding of Client Rights, per MN Rule 31, part 4747.1500. Must be able to demonstrate flexibility in work hours and responsibilities to accommodate team members’ scheduling needs or unexpected situations. Minnesota Department of Health requires all healthcare employees to have a current TB/Mantoux screening. This is a 100% in-person position, NO REMOTE work available at this time. You must be able to work all shifts as scheduled.
