Veterans Employment & Education Policy Associate

Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Plans, coordinates, and oversees the administration of the employment and/or education segment of the National Economic Commission’s policy and program areas. Serves as the liaison to various Congressional committees and subcommittees, federal agencies, private sector organizations, and appropriate individuals to support the resolutions or policies of the organization through the National Veteran Employment & Education Commission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. To initiate action concerning all matters affecting the economic well-being of veterans and the re-establishment of all veterans returning to civilian life after a period of active service in the Armed Forces of the United States
\n
2. To survey, study and recommend solutions on problems relating to employment, unemployment, underemployment, reemployment, and workers compensation of all veterans who seek, or have, attachment to the labor force, public or private
\n
3. To study all questions involved in the protection of preferential rights of veterans in civil service
\n
4. To ensure that veterans educational benefits provided by the United States government to veterans are sufficient to pay all of the costs of a college education at state-supported colleges, all of the costs of trade school education, and a substantial portion of education by privately-owned colleges.

5. To ensure that the federal and local governments are allocating sufficient resources to alleviate and end the challenge of homelessness among America’s veterans
\n
6. To ensure that all veterans receive the benefits to which they are entitled as compensation for their military service on behalf of a grateful nation
\n
7. Maintains a close working relationship with appropriate Congressional committees and subcommittees and prepares, delivers, and defends Congressional testimony on subjects pertinent to the mandates of the National Veterans Employment & Education Commission
\n
8. Performs other the duties as assigned

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP (reports directly to): Director

MINIMUM SKILLS REQUIRED FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Select only one under each category):

Education/Technical Knowledge:

College education – four-year degree to provide basic familiarity with a variety of subjects.

Additional Skills Needed:

• Outgoing personality and ability to sell ideas and programs.
\n
• Must be veteran and eligible for membership in The American Legion.
\n
• Must be able to handle myriad details of planning and organizing meetings
\n
• Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral presentation skills.
\n
• Must have good skills using MS Office products.
\n
