Job Summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking an experienced Central Sterile Processing Technician to join its Central Sterile Services department. This travel opportunity is ideal for technicians with previous travel experience who are passionate about infection prevention, instrument processing, and supporting high-quality surgical care.

Schedule

• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Schedule: 5 x 8-hour shifts
• Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and medical equipment.
• Operate sterilization equipment while following AAMI, AORN, and facility infection prevention standards.
• Prepare instrument trays, case carts, and sterile supplies for surgical procedures.
• Monitor sterilization cycles using biological and chemical indicators.
• Maintain accurate sterilization documentation and instrument tracking records.
• Support Operating Room and procedural departments by ensuring timely instrument availability.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant sterile processing environment.

Requirements

Required

• Previous Sterile Processing travel experience
• Current Sterile Processing certification ( CRCST/HSPA or CBSPD )
• Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Instrument decontamination
  • Instrument assembly
  • Steam sterilization
  • High-Level Disinfection (HLD)
  • Infection prevention
  • Quality assurance

• Acute Care Hospital experience
• Central Sterile Services experience
• Instrument tracking systems
• Endoscope reprocessing
• Case cart preparation
• Sterrad and steam sterilization systems
