Registered Nurse, Health Care Facility Inspector, West Region (260003LY) The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is looking for a qualified Registered Nurse dedicated to public health, quality of life and safety to conduct inspections and surveys statewide in nursing homes, hospitals and other health care facilities. The Health Care Facility Inspector will ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, draft inspection reports, evaluate corrective action plans, and provide guidance and training to facility staff. Responsibilities Inspect and survey health care facility departments to determine compliance with certification and licensure rules. Draft reports on facility conformance with federal and state regulations based on on‑site inspections and desk reviews. Evaluate plans of correction submitted by facilities and conduct follow‑up visits to assess ongoing compliance. Participate in developing methods to evaluate health care services, program acceptance, utilization, staffing characteristics, operational costs and related activities. Provide consultation, guidance and training to facility health‑care professionals and staff involved in patient care. Travel statewide, primarily within the West Region, and occasionally to the Division’s main office in Marlborough; maintain a reliable vehicle. May work occasional weekends and mandatory overtime. Required Qualifications Knowledge of health care administration principles and practices. Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency officials, staff associates, and health care providers. Ability to understand, apply and explain laws, rules and regulations concerning hospital licensure and accreditation. Familiarity with challenges in providing care to elderly, children, and disabled clients. Preferred Qualifications 3–5 years of professional RN experience in a health care facility, preferably nursing homes. Proven investigative skills and basic investigative knowledge. General knowledge of state and federal regulations related to hospitals and nursing homes. Demonstrated initiative, judgment, discretion and confidentiality in achieving objectives. Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, interpersonal, interviewing, teamwork, communication and organizational skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
