Overview Position: Assistant Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive Coach (Coaching Assistant -12 Month) Type: Part-time, Temporary • Academic Year: 2025/2026 • Available: Spring 2026 Application: Please apply online at the CSUB Careers site ( ). Position will remain open until filled. Major Job Duties (Essential Functions) Ensure the effective teaching and instruction of all specific technical skill areas to student-athletes. Teach and instruct student-athletes in the sport, using the coach’s background and experience to determine beneficial instruction for the individual and the team. Develop team and individual strategies to maximize performance through on-court/field teaching and video instruction. Design instructional programs for the team and individual student athletes and instruct student-athletes on how to implement a game plan for each competition. Travel to events and evaluate potential student-athlete talent; correspond with all prospects via email, phone, and in-person conversations. Complete all necessary Compliance and Institutional documentation as required. Recruit student-athletes who meet University academic and athletic standards. Monitor athletes’ academic progress in collaboration with the academic support staff. Work with the NCAA Compliance Office to ensure programs and student-athletes comply with all rules and regulations. Manage an annual budget including fiscal planning. Promote the program to the public (media, donors, University community, and the general public) to increase visibility and revenues for the program. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Knowledge of NCAA Rules – strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance. Sport Experience – extensive knowledge of individual and team skills with the ability to teach these skills. Recruiting – ability to evaluate and compare athletic talent; maintain correspondence with prospects (email, letters, phone). Academic Monitoring – ability to establish and monitor an academic system for student-athlete success. Travel – ability to plan, organize and execute travel arrangements. Computer Skills – computer literacy. Communication Skills – high level of communication with student-athletes, prospects, coaches, counselors, parents, and boosters. Fundraising – ability to develop the sports community in support and fundraising. Certifications – upon hire, NCAA Coaches Certification and 15-passenger van driving certification are required. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution, or two (2) or more years of work experience coaching; NCAA Division I experience is preferred. A successful record of recruiting NCAA Division I student-athletes is preferred. Candidate must possess excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of constituents. Compensation The full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) monthly salary range for this classification is $6,288-$7,658, per CSU Unit 3 salary schedule. This appointment is 0.25 FTE (10/40 hours per week). Salary will be prorated based on time base. At 0.25 FTE, the approximate monthly salary range is $1,572-$1,914.50. Anticipated Hiring Range: $1,572-$1,583 monthly.
