Accountant I

Hourly pay range: $19.86 USD to $23.83 USD

SUMMARY

The Accountant I prepares and posts the company's general ledger activities, performs routine accounting duties such as reconciliations and investment tasks, and supports other accounting personnel as needed.

The ideal candidate should have strong analytical skill, attention to detail, and proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite. Effective communication and teamwork abilities are also essential.

By maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the accounting team, the Accountant I ensures precise financial transactions, aiding in informed decision-making and strategic planning. This role is vital to the company's financial health and growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Prepare and post the various entities activity, including cash receipts, journal entries, general ledger, cash disbursements and general ledger reconciliations as well as all required reports.
• Maintain data entry and recording for various software programs, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and 1099.
• Prepare and post various investment entries.
• Review bank deposit accounts and perform reconciliation of accounts.
• Support the accurate preparation and presentation of financial data for monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory and financial reports.
• Assist with various accounts payable duties, including review and input of invoices, set up of vendors, processing of checks, and research of invoice questions.
• Prepare reconciliation of various balance sheet accounts.
• Design and build reporting structures and formats using various software programs.
• Assist with the budget process.
• Maintain subsidiary schedules that support and reconcile to control accounts or control activities.
• Assist with federal and state examination requests, as well as internal and external audits.
• Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual tax information.
• Accurately key or scan document data into imaging equipment, ensuring all information is properly filed, indexed and cross-referenced through electronic means.
• Properly review and check back scanned documents to ensure accuracy of electronic files.
• Ensure that electronic records are properly maintained, archived and stored according to established policies and regulations.
• Utilize strong communication skills to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
• Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures
• Recommend and implements process improvements in areas of responsibility.
• Provide support to other areas of the Accounting Department as necessary.
• Assume responsibility for special projects and tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

• Associate’s degree in Accounting, a related field, or a commensurate combination of education and experience required.
• Minimum of three years of experience working in Accounting or a related field required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Working knowledge of Accounting functions and relevant laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers at all levels.
• A positive and proactive approach to work, demonstrating enthusiasm, adaptability, and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful or adverse conditions.
• Strong organizational skills and attention detail.
• Critical thinking skills and the ability to apply sound judgement in decision-making.
• Ability to accurately and quickly complete standard mathematical calculations, applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to analyze and interpret common and specialized financial reports.
• Proficient computer literacy, including comfort with Microsoft systems and Office Suite.
• Intermediate typing skills to meet the needs of this position.
• Current driver’s license and reliable transportation with appropriate insurance coverage; additionally, the ability to drive occasionally in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
• The ability to work with minimal or no supervision.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field strongly preferred. (the above states Associates Degree so need to discuss what to use)
