Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner Job Requirements

• Board certification required
• Active state license required; compact providers accepted
• DEA registration required
• ACLS and BLS required
• 2 years of experience preferred in inpatient neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, or similar acute care settings
• Ability to provide rounding and consult coverage for pre-operative and post-operative patients
• Comfort working in a high-acuity academic hospital environment
• Preferred familiarity with lumbar puncture, arterial/venous access, ultrasound-guided peripheral IV placement, and other bedside inpatient procedures

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient care for neurosurgery, neurology, and stroke patients
• Perform daily rounds, ongoing assessments, and treatment planning
• Manage pre-operative and post-operative patients, including monitoring for complications and supporting perioperative plans
• Respond to inpatient consults for altered mental status, seizures, focal deficits, headaches, and post-operative neurologic changes
• Support acute stroke workflows in collaboration with the care team
• Document patient assessments, consult findings, and care recommendations clearly and accurately in Epic
• Assist with bedside procedures and protocol-based care as needed
• Coordinate with attending physicians and support staff to promote timely follow-up and continuity of care
