Maintenance Custodian

Pay: $19-21/hour

We are seeking a reliable Maintenance Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout our church campus. This role is primarily focused on custodial and janitorial duties, with additional responsibility for light maintenance, facility support, room setups, and basic groundskeeping.

No religious affiliation is required. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds who are comfortable working in a church environment and treating the facility, staff, visitors, and parishioners with professionalism and respect.

Custodial & Cleaning Duties

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, meeting rooms, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and maintain floors and surfaces throughout the facility.
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles and transport waste to designated collection areas.
• Replenish restroom and janitorial supplies as needed.
• Clean windows, doors, furniture, fixtures, and other facility surfaces.
• Perform routine inspections to maintain cleanliness and safety standards.

Light Maintenance & Facility Support

• Change interior and exterior light bulbs.
• Safely use ladders to perform light maintenance tasks.
• Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and repair needs to management.
• Assist with basic facility upkeep and support maintenance projects as assigned.

Event Setup & Groundskeeping

• Assist with room setups and breakdowns for services, meetings, classes, and special events.
• Move, arrange, and store tables, chairs, and equipment.
• Monitor building exteriors and grounds for cleanliness and appearance.
• Pick up litter and debris from parking lots, sidewalks, entrances, and landscaped areas.
• Pull weeds and assist with basic grounds beautification efforts.
• Help maintain a clean and welcoming environment for all visitors.

Required

• 2+ years of custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, maintenance helper, or facility maintenance experience.
• Experience with light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and basic repairs.
• Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Comfortable working in a church environment.

Preferred

• Previous groundskeeping experience.
• Experience setting up and breaking down tables, chairs, and event spaces.
• Valid driver's license.

• Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
• Must be willing to work approximately one Sunday every 3-4 weeks on a rotating basis.
• Work alongside a Facilities Manager and a team of facility staff members in a collaborative environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Williamsburg, VA.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Williamsburg,VA.
