Library Technical Assistant: Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Specialist

$25 - $28 per hour

Library Technical Assistant: Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Specialist Full‑Time, Non‑Exempt (40 hours per week) Salary Range: $25.00 – $28.00 per hour Location: University of Redlands, Redlands, CA 92374, USA Responsibilities Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Communicate and coordinate order, lease, receipt, and payment of library material, including streaming media and serials. Create purchase orders and manage invoices in the library management system in coordination with the Business and Finance Office. Resolve payment discrepancies, lapsed subscriptions, and delivery issues. Analyze usage and cost‑per‑usage statistics. Assist with government documents maintenance and related projects. Maintain electronic resources and ensure consistent, accurate user access. Troubleshoot electronic resource issues and coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders for resolution. Course Reserves Consult with faculty about course materials to be placed on reserve. Research, verify, and troubleshoot bibliographic information. Manage online and physical course reserve environments across university libraries. Observe copyright, fair‑use guidelines, and contract agreements. Create and modify bibliographic records. Digitize and reformat information sources for optimal access and readability. Coordinate with faculty and staff to acquire or lease material timely and cost‑effectively. Compile and analyze course reserve request and usage statistics. Operations Oversee circulation, patron account management, first‑level reference assistance, stacks maintenance, and missing item procedures. Conduct regular walk‑throughs to welcome library users, answer questions, and ensure resources are functional. Coordinate with IT Services, Facilities Management, Public Safety, and other units to maintain a conducive learning environment. Contribute ideas that welcome and engage library users. Manage expenditures in accordance with budget guidelines. Adhere to University and Library policies and procedures, including Title IX guidelines and Library Community Agreements. Draft and revise policy and procedure documentation. Conduct data analysis and reporting. Uphold patron privacy and professional values. Engage in departmental initiatives, meetings, and projects. Practice flexibility and openness to diverse perspectives. Practice self‑reflection and growth necessary for working with diverse populations. Supervision Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate student employees. Oversee frontline services provided by student employees to students, faculty, staff, and the public. Mentor student development through active listening and accountability. Ensure student colleagues are proficient in Library website, policies, procedures, LCCS, and wayfinding. Design and manage work projects that involve student colleagues in library initiatives. Inform student and library colleagues about relevant news and developments. Model empathy, respect, curiosity, and calm when responding to emergencies and patron issues. Collaborate with fellow supervisors to maintain consistent oversight and performance expectations. Qualifications Required Education and Experience Certificate in library science (2 years recent full‑time library experience) or Bachelor’s degree (1 year recent full‑time library experience) or Associate’s degree (2 years recent full‑time library experience) or High‑school diploma (4 years recent full‑time library experience). Students near completion of their education requirements may also apply if they meet the above criteria. Demonstrated experience leading a team in a formal or informal setting. Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of experience working in an academic library. Experience hiring, training, and supervising college or university students. Experience with OCLC’s World Management Services, Adobe Acrobat, Springshare’s LibAnswers, Microsoft 365, Canva, and Canvas. Knowledge and Skills Comprehensive knowledge of library operations, technologies, and principles such as intellectual freedom. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and administrative abilities. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully with culturally diverse populations. Comprehensive knowledge of library databases, systems, and resources, including expertise in search tools. Judgment regarding copyright rights and responsibilities. Expertise in relevant areas of a library’s integrated library system. Ability to contribute to short‑ and long‑term planning through data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Conflict resolution skills with empathy and flexibility, familiar with de‑escalation techniques. Computer proficiency with software and basic hardware (e.g., printers). Ability to work independently and in high‑pressure environments. Knowledge of the Library of Congress classification system and Microsoft Office suite.
