RN – Psychiatric

Location: Syracuse, NY
Contract: 16 Weeks 
Schedule: Night Shift, 3×12-hour shifts
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Floating: Required for psychiatric float assignments

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Psychiatric to provide patient care in an acute care hospital setting. The RN will work with adult, child, and adolescent patients and must be comfortable working independently with minimal orientation and supervision.

The ideal candidate will have recent acute care hospital experience, strong psychiatric/inpatient experience, and familiarity with EPIC Electronic Medical Records .

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in an acute care hospital setting.
• Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions and responses to treatment.
• Provide nursing care to adult, child, and adolescent patients.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation.
• Use Electronic Medical Records systems to document patient care and clinical information.
• Follow hospital policies, procedures, and patient safety standards.
• Float to psychiatric units/assignments as required.
• Work effectively during night shifts, weekends, and designated holidays.
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Perform additional nursing duties within the scope of the RN role as assigned.

Required Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing ( ADN ) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing ( BSN ).

Required Licensure & Certifications

• Current New York State RN License .
• Current New York State Registration .
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) .
• Must be eligible to maintain or obtain recertification as required.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience .
• Minimum 1.5 years of recent experience within the past 2 years in an acute care facility of similar size and level.
• Inpatient experience with adult, child, and adolescent patients .
• Psychiatric/inpatient behavioral health experience.
• Hospital experience in a facility of equal or greater size is required for travelers.
• Experience in a Level I Trauma Center is highly desired.
• EPIC EMR experience is highly desired.
• Strong clinical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care environment.
• Flexibility to float to psychiatric assignments as required.
