Teacher - Learning Specialist - Special Education 2026-2027 School Year

Teacher – Learning Specialist – Special Education Location: Arapahoe Ridge Elementary, Thornton, CO. Position Type: Teaching: Special Education / Teacher‑Learning Specialist.

SUMMARY

Learning Specialists design and facilitate specialized math, literacy, and social/emotional instruction for students with disabilities, and provide advocacy, assessment, collaboration, and compliance support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Advocacy: Advocate for student access, model inclusive language, ensure equitable discipline processes. Assessment: Administer formal assessments, analyze data for IEP eligibility, develop and monitor SMART goals, collect universal data, collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists, coordinate with families. Compliance: Implement IDEA and ECEA regulations, develop legally compliant IEPs, ensure implementation across settings, abide by district policies. Instruction: Identify instructional levels, develop ambitious trajectories, plan lessons with evidence‑based practices, differentiate instruction, support behavior management, participate in professional development.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or higher. Minimum age 18 years.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Must possess required Colorado Educator License or be in process of obtaining within 30 days of hire. Criminal background check required. Preference for candidates with ELL/ESL or LDE endorsement.

SALARY INFORMATION

Salary determined by certified salary schedule based on education and experience. Experience credit for previous services applies as described in district guidelines.
