Journeyman - Machinery Maintenance Mechanic

Repair machinery, mechanical or electrical equipment. Essential Responsibilities:

Examine machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble. Dismantle or partly dismantle machines and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts. Replace broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock; ordering the production of a replacement part by a machine shop or sending the machine to a machine shop for major repairs; preparing written specifications for major repairs or for the production of parts ordered from machine shops. Reassemble machines and make all necessary adjustments for operation.

Converses with equipment operators to ascertain problems with equipment before breakdown, and to determine if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical problems. Tests faulty equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction. Tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects. Replaces defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts. Aligns, adjusts, and calibrates equipment according to specifications. Calibrates testing instruments. Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, and tests. Enters information into computer to copy program from one electronic component to another, or to draw, modify or to store schematics. Reads blueprints, wiring diagrams, process sheets, and assembly and schematic drawings, and receives verbal instructions regarding work assignment. Aligns and assembles parts such as leads, coils, wires, tabs, and terminals into housing. Routes and laces cables. Installs components and parts such as switches, coils, transformers, relays, transistors, and semiconductor circuits on chassis, circuit boards, panels, and other units. Routes and attaches wires and connectors to form circuitry and connects assembly to power supply sources, switch panels, or junction boxes. Attaches hardware and seals assembly. Examines parts for defects such as pinholes or chips. Test operates unit to locate defects, measure performance, determine need for adjustment, and verify specified operation. Replaces defective components and wiring. Calibrates unit according to specifications. Enters information on production records, logs, and other report forms. Repairs defective units rejected by inspection or test personnel.

Installs and tests a variety of electrical lines and circuits to components, devices, and fixtures in military shelters and vans, e.g., distribution boxes, monitoring panels, time and temperature relays, pressure and motor switches, lighting, fans, receptacles, etc. Installs wire mold, raceways and/or conduits and fittings, replaces or installs wires by pulling wire through wire mold or conduit and connecting to electric fixtures or components, etc. Disassembles, repairs, troubleshoots, and/or replaces wire mold, wires, and electrical components and devices. Builds or fabricates and wires phase meter boxes, power distribution boxes, and other meter boxes, as needed. Performs disassembly and assembly work in a number of shelters and vans. Disassembly work includes removing various types of radio equipment, teletype equipment, etc., from racks; unscrewing, removing and tagging the racks; removing raceways, lights, and/or cable if required; replacing rusted bolts; preparing inside shelter for painting by taping and masking areas identified for painting; removing rotted wire, etc. Assembly work involves installing lights; replacing nuts and bolts; installing equipment racks; etc. Participates as a member of a team in the repair and installation of equipment both in-house and on TDY assignments.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: Shop environment, in which mechanical equipment is operated, is loud and noisy, and some pieces of equipment have exposed moving components. Must be able to stand and bend for long periods. Must be able to push and test vehicles and heavy objects. Routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required. Occasional use of safety glasses and hearing protection required.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Journeyman Electrician License
• Three years' experience working on industrial equipment and/or three years' doing metal fabrication
• Be able to obtain and retain a forklift operators license
• Valid state-issued drivers license.
• Passing a pre-employment drug screen and a government background check is required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English.
• Must be available to work any shift. Willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.

$38.16
