Job Overview The University of Cincinnati is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Grant Administrator 1 (Post Award) to support the financial administration of externally sponsored projects within the Natural Sciences division. Under the direction of the Business Manager and in partnership with faculty, researchers, and university stakeholders, this position is responsible for the day-to-day post-award financial management of grants, contracts, and other sponsored funding. The Grant Administrator 1 will assist in ensuring compliance with university policies and sponsor requirements while providing exceptional customer service and financial guidance to principal investigators and research teams. This role offers an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in developing expertise in sponsored project administration and research finance. Following completion of training, this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement (3 days on campus and 2 days remote) for employees residing in Ohio, Kentucky, or Indiana. Employees must reside within reasonable commuting distance of the UC Uptown Campus and be available to report to campus as needed. Remote work arrangements are subject to change in accordance with university policies. Essential Functions Provide post-award financial support for federal, state, foundation, industry, and other externally sponsored awards. Assist faculty, research staff, and departmental personnel with processing and monitoring grant-related financial transactions, including purchasing, travel, payroll, and cost transfers. Review sponsored project expenditures to ensure compliance with sponsor regulations, university policies, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements. Monitor award budgets and spending activity to help ensure project expenditures align with award objectives and available funding. Communicate regularly with principal investigators and research staff regarding sponsored project balances, expenditures, deadlines, and compliance requirements. Prepare financial reports, analyses, and other ad hoc reporting as requested by management and departmental leadership. Collaborate with university offices including Sponsored Research Services, Research Finance, Human Resources, Procurement, and Accounting to resolve award-related issues and ensure compliance. Assist with effort certification, award closeout activities, financial reconciliations, and other post-award administrative processes. Demonstrate working knowledge of grant administration principles, sponsored project lifecycle activities, and university financial systems. Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with sponsor and university requirements. Follow established procedures and guidelines to complete assigned responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail. Perform related duties based on departmental and organizational needs. Five (5) years of relevant education, experience and/or other specialized training can fulfill minimum education and experience requirements Required Experience One (1) year grant and/or finance-related experience. Additional Qualifications Considered Experience supporting post-award grant administration in a higher education, healthcare, research, or nonprofit environment. Knowledge of federal grant regulations, Uniform Guidance, and sponsored project compliance requirements. Experience interpreting and applying sponsor and institutional policies. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. Experience with enterprise financial or research administration systems is preferred.
