Special Education Teacher

Together for Youth Secure Detention is seeking to hire a fulltime Special Education Teacher to be responsible for preparing lesson plans and educating students at all levels. Duties include assigning homework, grading tests, and documenting progress. Teachers must be able to instruct in a variety of subjects and reach students with engaging lesson plans. Job Responsibilities Facilitate lesson plan instructions to students, including 1:1 and small group input and help facilitate social and emotional learning components of lesson plans. Develop and issue educational content including notes, tests, and assignments. Supervise classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive environment. Organize supplies and resources for lectures and presentations. Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning. Plan and implement educational activities and events. Present lessons in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means to facilitate learning. Providing individualized instruction to each student by promoting interactive learning. Creating and distributing educational content. Ensure classroom is clean and orderly. Allocate and grade homework, assignments, and tests. Observe, implement, monitor and complete specific reports regarding student performance and behaviors in the classroom. Provide pre-crisis intervention and conflict resolution with student, including implementing and using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) principles and approved behavior modification techniques/strategies. Comply with all federal, state and local laws and regulations, including those of NYS Office of Children and Family Services. Perform other duties as assigned. Schedule & Compensation Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM - year round Compensation: $75,000 to $90,000 per year depending on experience, education, and skills. Job Requirements Minimum of (1) year of practical teaching experience. Middle school & high school teaching experience, required. Bachelor's degree and a valid NYS teaching certificate required, or an equivalent teaching certificate obtained through a NYS-approved pathway that leads to a master's degree in education and permanent certification. Teaching experience in a High School Alternative School Setting, highly preferred. Proficient knowledge and skills with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). Must have a valid driver’s license. Ability to travel if needed.
