Building And Grounds Maintenance Worker IIUnder general supervision, to perform a variety of general maintenance and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings, facilities, fixtures, and building equipment; to perform grounds maintenance duties; and to do related work as required. This is the fully experienced working level in the Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker class series. Incumbents perform a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of County buildings, facilities, and related machinery and equipment. Assignments involve painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC repairs. Incumbents also perform grounds maintenance work. This class is distinguished from Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker I in that incumbents work with less guidance and supervision, performing a broader range of assignments which require a higher level of skill. Reports to Building and Grounds Superintendent or Facilities and Grounds Manager.Typical physical requirements include standing and walking frequently; ability to walk in uneven terrain and on slippery surfaces; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to crawl through various areas requiring movement on hands and knees; ability to climb, stoop, crouch, and kneel; lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; perform sustained physical work; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including computer, telephone, calculator, copiers, and FAX; operate an automobile; use hand tools and power equipment. Typical working conditions include work performed in building and outdoor environments; work performed in varying temperatures; exposure to dust, chemicals, and gases; exposure to electrical currents; continuous contact with other staff.Example of duties include providing supervision over 1-2 inmate assigned to assist with work projects; performing a variety of general maintenance and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings, facilities, and associated equipment; performing basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work; responding to repair requests and making requisite repairs; maintaining heat and air conditioning systems; maintaining fire alarms and fire extinguishers; maintaining, repairing, and replacing fan motors; replacing broken floor tiles; performing general grounds keeping work such as mowing, weeding and watering turf; applying some chemicals such as herbicides and fertilizers to enhance plant growth as necessary; assisting with inspection of buildings and facilities for needed repairs; moving furniture and equipment; operating hand tools, power equipment, and vehicles; and may oversee Community Service Workers.Minimum qualifications include any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be one year of building maintenance experience comparable to that of a Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker I with San Benito County. Special requirements include possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driver's License.Knowledge of practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in the building trades; heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment in County buildings and facilities; general grounds keeping and landscape maintenance methods and procedures; safe work practices and procedures applicable to building maintenance and grounds keeping work. Ability to perform a variety of general maintenance and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings, facilities, and associated equipment; perform grounds keeping and landscape maintenance assignments; read and understand plans, construction drawings, and blueprints; recognize and locate conditions which require maintenance and repair.Selection process includes a screening committee (pass/fail) and/or an oral examination (100%) which may include a written practical component to determine placement on the eligible list.
