Duties

Help

• Advise commanders, integrating safety into OPORDs, and manage risk during tactical operations, live fire training, and AOR deployments.
• Inspecting ranges, facilities, and equipment; assign Risk Assessment Codes (RAC); and recommending abatement actions.
• Lead accident investigations, analyze mishap trends, and identifying systemic failures.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position has been designed as "Emergency-Essential." Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.
• This position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
• Incumbent may be required to deploy with assigned unit for periods up 365 days.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Incumbent is required to pass a military standard physical examination.
• Anthrax inoculation program participation may be required to meet deployment requirements.
• The military BDU is the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environment). Incumbent will be issued standard TA50 for use per local requirements.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• Must be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Applying knowledge of range safety, tactical doctrine and operation planning process sufficiently to conduct independent risk management assessments; 2) Developing operations risk management plans; 3) Applying knowledge of safety and occupational health laws and regulations sufficiently to identify, evaluate, and control or abate hazards; and 4) Applying knowledge of accident investigation and analytical techniques sufficiently to assess human, material, and environmental factors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
