About the Position

Permanent candidates from other facilities are eligible for a travel position if they have been separated for at least 3 months. Active compact licenses are honored. Candidates must have high-risk experience. First-time travelers are accepted. Pre-approved time off will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Staff are expected to work every other weekend and holidays as needed. Floating to postpartum and antepartum may be required. Candidates should expect to float to other facilities that provide care for mothers and babies. Patient diagnoses include midwifery clients, adult recovery services supporting substance recovery, and community care clinics. Experience with electronic fetal monitoring is essential. Staffing will follow established guidelines for maternal nursing. This unit is high volume and high risk, handling various types of deliveries. There are 4 operating rooms available. Candidates must function as a baby nurse during deliveries and continue care of the newborn until transfer to postpartum. Care includes newborn assessments and administration of vitamin K injections. The average daily census is 15 patients, with 500-600 deliveries per month. The unit has 31 rooms and 31 beds. Schedules will be posted every 6 weeks to meet unit's needs. Preferred certifications include ACLS and AWHONN Advanced or Intermediate. Candidates must be able to manage high acuity environments and care for newborns during critical situations. Special skills required include amnioinfusion, anticoagulation therapy, APGAR scoring, and assisting with high-risk deliveries. Other skills include breastfeeding support, circulating for cesarean sections, and performing sterile vaginal exams. Staff must also be knowledgeable in postpartum hemorrhage management, insulin drips, and neonatal resuscitation. Floating between sister facilities may occur but is rare. All nurses may be floated to help in other units as needed. No prior contacts should be made unless for an agreed-upon interview.
