Associate Actuary / Actuary - Property & Casualty

Protective is seeking an experienced Property & Casualty

(P&C)

actuarial professional to join our Enterprise Risk Management

(ERM)

team. This role will serve as a trusted risk advisor to Protective’s growing P&C businesses, including the Asset Protection Division (

APD

) and the Excess and Surplus (

E&S)

line of business. They will provide independent actuarial and enterprise risk management perspectives on material business decisions.

The successful candidate will apply deep P&C insurance knowledge, actuarial judgment, and capital management expertise to help leadership understand the risk and capital implications of business growth, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives. This individual will evaluate risk across underwriting, pricing, claims, reinsurance, catastrophe exposure, and capital, translating complex analyses into clear insights and practical recommendations. This is an opportunity to help shape the risk framework for a growing P&C platform, influence enterprise decisions, and support the continued integration and development of P&C operations within Protective. The role is well suited for an experienced actuary who has worked within an insurance carrier’s ERM function and can operate as an independent, credible advisor to business and senior leaders. Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary ERM partner supporting Protective’s P&C businesses, including the Asset Protection Division and the Excess and Surplus line of business. • Provide constructive, independent challenge of business assumptions, actuarial analyses, risk assessments, and management decisions. • Provide independent actuarial and ERM advice on business growth, risk-taking activities, acquisitions, strategic initiatives, and emerging risks. • Assess insurance risk exposures relative to Protective’s risk appetite, limits, tolerances, and capital framework. • Develop and enhance P&C risk metrics, key risk indicators, dashboards, limits, monitoring processes, and escalation procedures. • Analyze profitability, underwriting performance, adverse loss development, earnings volatility, catastrophe exposure, concentration risk, and potential capital impacts, • Perform and evaluate stress testing, scenario analysis, and capital assessments to identify potential downside exposures. • Monitor reinsurance programs, risk-transfer strategies, collateral arrangements, and counterparty credit exposures. • Monitor catastrophe exposures, geographic concentrations, and risk-accumulation trends across the P&C platform. • Participate in Own Risk and Solvency Assessment activities, regulatory reporting, annual risk assessments, and emerging-risk reviews • Translate actuarial and capital analyses into clear recommendations for business leaders, senior management, ERM committees, and Board-level discussions. • Evaluate the risk and capital implications of potential P&C acquisitions, new programs, portfolio changes, and market expansion opportunities. • Support the integration of acquired businesses and their risk management practices into Protective’s enterprise risk framework. • Promote a strong risk culture through education, communication, collaboration, and constructive challenge. Deep knowledge of P&C insurance risks, products, underwriting, pricing, claims, reserving, reinsurance, and capital management. Strong understanding of enterprise risk management principles and their application within an insurance carrier. Ability to evaluate business decisions from actuarial, enterprise risk, and capital management perspectives. Strong actuarial judgment, quantitative analysis, and structured problem-solving capabilities. Ability to evaluate complex financial and risk information, identify material implications, and develop actionable recommendations. Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (

ACAS)

designation. At least seven years of experience in Property & Casualty insurance, actuarial risk management, actuarial consulting, or a related P&C actuarial field. Direct P&C actuarial experience and a strong understanding of P&C insurance products and operations. Demonstrated knowledge of underwriting, claims, reinsurance, insurance risk, and capital management. Experience performing or evaluating complex actuarial, financial, capital, or enterprise risk analyses. Demonstrated ability to translate technical analyses into clear business insights and recommendations. Experience communicating with and influencing leaders and stakeholders across multiple functions. Preferred Qualifications

Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society

(FCAS)

designation. Warranty, asset protection, specialty insurance, or related P&C product experience. Enterprise risk management experience within a P&C insurance carrier. Experience advising business leaders from both actuarial and enterprise risk management perspectives. Experience evaluating capital requirements, capital adequacy, or risk-based capital implications for P&C businesses. Experience supporting acquisitions, actuarial due diligence, business integrations, or organizational transformation initiatives. Familiarity with Own Risk and Solvency Assessment

(ORSA)

requirements, insurance regulatory reporting, and risk governance frameworks. Experience developing or evaluating stress tests, scenario analyses, or capital models. Working knowledge of catastrophe modeling platforms and catastrophe-risk management practices. Experience developing risk appetite measures, key risk indicators, dashboards, risk limits, or senior-management risk reporting. Experience providing independent oversight or challenge within a second-line risk function. \n

The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees. This position also offers additional incentive opportunities through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance. \n
