Job Title: Affiliate Faculty - Mechanical Engineering (no salary)Posting End Date: June 18, 2026*NOTE: Last day to apply is Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:59pm (MDT)Position Start Date: July 1, 2026Required Degree: PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science.The required degree must be completed by the start date.Experience: 3 years post-PhD research experience.Duties/Expectations:Collaborate on representing and classifying grain boundary structures across the 5D space of crystallographic character, drawing on methods from crystallographic symmetry frameworks and high-throughput structure analysis. This work explores how structural and topological descriptors of grain boundaries relate to their crystallographic classification, particularly how correlative measures of grain boundary structure may imply a "grammar" of fundamental building blocks beyond the local environment representation.Collaborate on density functional theory studies of dielectric properties in ceramics. Assist in calculations dielectric properties in VASP, develop workflows to address property variation in derivative structures to screen novel material candidates.
