Part-Sheriff's Office Security Officer

The Dougherty County Sheriff's Office/Jail Division is hiring on a continuous basis for a Part-Sheriff's Office Security Officer. The purpose of this position is to observe conduct and behavior of individuals in civil and criminal cases while in a courtroom setting to prevent disturbances and the escape of inmates. Assists jurors during terms of court, searches the courtrooms for weapons and other contraband, and acts directly upon the instructions from the judge in potentially threatening situations. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Essential tasks include assisting and directing witnesses and the general public to and from court, assisting court officers in observing conduct and behavior of individuals and reporting any suspicious activity, monitoring court holding cells and transporting inmates to and from court in a safe manner, patrolling court facilities and grounds of the facility in accordance with applicable Judicial Building Security Plan, securing closed courtrooms, inspecting courtrooms before and after proceedings, testing security devices and reporting findings, properly applying restraint devices on inmates, operating a portable radio, closed-circuit television (CCTV), hand wand metal scanning device and assisting with walk thru metal scanning/X-ray devices, conducting daily patrol of courtrooms and surrounding areas, assisting and guarding jurors in the courtroom during trial terms, assisting with duplicating court documents required to update the Sheriff's records, assisting presiding judges in general with any needs directed by the courts, assisting with booking documents and court orders that require signatures, ensuring the condition and status of all duress alarms are tested on a monthly basis, and performing related work as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent and one (1) year of experience in security, customer service, clerical or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Special certifications and licenses include possessing and maintaining a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Successful applicants for employment must pass a drug and/or alcohol screening and pass background investigation.
