Registered Nurse - Long Term Care

Mission Statement The Office of Veterans Affairs Nursing is dedicated to fulfilling President Lincoln’s promise to care for those who served, their families, caregivers, and survivors by providing compassionate whole‑health care. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Eligible candidates must meet VHA policy requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Former EDRP participants are ineligible. Job Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers a full range of practical nursing care to patients with diverse physical and behavioral challenges. The RN collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, engages patients and families, and ensures safe, high‑quality care. Responsibilities Deliver safe patient care and develop technical competencies, including proper use of equipment and nursing procedures. Recognize abnormal findings, respond appropriately, and implement physician and nursing orders in a timely manner. Identify patients displaying suicidal or violent (DTV) behavior and initiate mandated interventions. Formulate, implement, and update individualized plans of care based on nursing assessments and the nursing process. Engage patients and families in care planning and education. Document nursing processes accurately, concisely, and timely in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and Bar‑Coded Medication Administration (BCMA) software. Demonstrate critical thinking skills, recognizing problems, managing them within scope, and responding to emergencies. Adhere to established policies, standards of care, and state licensure scope. Qualifications U.S. citizenship is required; non‑citizens may be considered only when qualified citizens are unavailable. Valid state nursing license (full and unrestricted). Must pass background/security investigation and mandatory drug screening (urinalysis). Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must pass mandatory pre‑employment physical examination. Must complete the mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination program; vaccination exemption permits mandatory mask mandates.
