Payroll Specialist

We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team to help contribute to our success and help us solve problems with innovation through intelligence.The Payroll Specialist has knowledge of Payroll, Tax, and General Ledger to enhance System High Corporation’s Finance Department.This position requires the ability to be able to identify company and customer needs and provide recommendations utilizing payroll best practices. This position requires the ability to work with all levels of staff (internal and external), utilizing clear, effective communication. This position has heavy contact with employees and vendors.The Payroll Specialist duties include, but are not limited to:Hands-on Payroll ExperienceWorking knowledge of time entry systems, Costpoint a plusWorking knowledge of payroll system, including Paycom, ADP, etcKnowledge of Wage and Fair Labor Standards ActKnowledge of federal, state and local tax lawsGovernment contracting, DFAS, DCAA and GSA experienceEnsure compliance with relevant laws and internal policiesFamiliarity with third-party vendors including Principal for 401K processingPayroll Processing Duties and ResponsibilitiesSemi-monthly payroll process for almost 600 employees utilizing Costpoint Time and Expense for time keeping and Paycom for pay processingProcess time sheet correctionsAssist in processing payroll changes (e.g. new hires, terminations, increases)Train new hires and existing staff to use Timesheet Module in CostpointSet up new hire access in CostpointRemove terminated employee access from CostpointVerify new hire and termination information imported from PaycomCalculate first and final payment prorations including bonus and/or PTO recoupProcess 401k contributions, loans, and paymentsProcess PTO accruals and generate applicable reportsProcess child support orders, garnishments, tax levies and other pay-related compliancesReview, verify and reconcile employee timecard entries for accuracyMaintain accurate records for payroll journal entriesLiaise with auditors and assist with payroll auditsAssist with internal and external auditsAssist with preparation and filing of required federal and state tax reportsAssist with processing year end reports and reconciling for accuracyCustomer ServiceAssist employees with general inquiries related to time keeping, payroll, leave accruals, and other pay related issuesOn-board and assist new hires with time sheet processingCustomer relations knowledge in troubleshooting with clients, payment offices, POCs and our internal System High stafMaintain strict confidentiality regarding all financial and personal informationRequired Skills (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)Costpoint/Deltek Time and ExpensePaycom (or similar payroll system)Microsoft Teams or other collaboration toolStrong MS Office skills to include Outlook, Word, Excel and Power PointHigh degree of accuracy and attention to detailExceptional organizational skillsAbility to multi-task in a fast-paced environmentAbility to work effectively under pressureEffective oral and written communication skills, and computer literacyExcellent interpersonal skillsStrong problem-solving abilities, and ability to pick up and adapt to new concepts and technologies quickly.Superior verbal/written skills and presentation skillsExcellent follow-up skillsDependability is a mustClearance RequirementNo Clearance RequiredYears of Experience/Education Requirements3+ years of time sheet, labor processing and payroll experienceBS/BA in Business Administration or Accounting desiredPaycom or other payroll system experience desiredFPC certification a plusCostpoint experience requiredWork ScheduleHybrid – For the first six months, this position requires onsite work at our Chantilly, VA headquarters Monday through Thursday, with Friday as a remote workday. After the first six months, the position will transition to a hybrid schedule requiring a minimum of one day per week onsite.
