At Trios, our Core Faculty position is a dynamic role that encompasses a diverse set of responsibilities including direct patient care, precepting, teaching, and administrative duties. Faculty provide direct patient care to a diverse patient population in our outpatient Family Medicine Residency clinic. They also directly educate residents by precepting and formal teaching. In addition, they act as an advisee to assigned residents, maintain assigned curricular responsibilities, and perform other duties that support the program which include but are not limited to resident interviewing, recruitment and selection, evaluation and promotion of residents, supervision of residents, and resident education in the context of patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in the Family Medicine (FM) residency clinic and inpatient settings.
• Supervise, precept, teach, and evaluate residents in outpatient and inpatient settings in accordance with program policies and supervision requirements.
• Teach medical students assigned to the FM residency clinic or inpatient Family Medicine service.
• Develop, maintain, and evaluate assigned curriculum, including didactics, simulations, labs, and other educational activities.
• Serve as faculty advisor and mentor to assigned residents, including development and monitoring of individualized learning plans and remediation plans as needed.
• Participate in resident scholarly activities and support the dissemination of scholarly work through presentations, posters/abstracts, and peer-reviewed publications.
• Support resident quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Participate in program evaluation and accreditation activities, including the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC), Program Evaluation Committee (PEC), Annual Program Evaluation, faculty meetings, and other assigned committees.
• Monitor and support the quality of the residents' clinical learning environment, including patient volume, curriculum, educational experiences, and quality improvement.
• Collaborate with the Program Director and faculty to meet ACGME requirements and advance the mission of the residency program, Sponsoring Institution, and community.
• Participate in residency recruitment, including applicant interviews, and complete required ACGME and institutional surveys.
• Participate in additional meetings and emergency or special-response activities as required by program needs, medical staff bylaws, or clinic policies.

Core Faculty Teaching Expectations

ACGME Family Medicine requirements provide that core faculty dedicate an average of at least 16 hours per week (800 hours annually) to teaching residents, exclusive of patient care provided without residents. The majority of core faculty professional efforts should support resident education, program administration, scholarly activity, and supervision of resident patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited medical or osteopathic school and successful completion of an accredited residency program.
• Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine.
• Prior outpatient and inpatient teaching experience preferred; new graduates will be considered.
• Current, unrestricted Washington State physician license, or ability to obtain one.
• Current DEA, BLS/BCLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, as applicable.
• Eligible to participate in Medicare and Medicaid programs without restriction.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required medical staff privileges and health plan credentialing.
• Ability to fulfill the clinical, educational, scholarly, administrative, and accreditation responsibilities of a Family Medicine residency faculty member.
