Principal Scientist, Scientific Workflows & Agentic Cheminformatics

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Principal Scientist to lead the development of agent-enabled scientific workflows in cheminformatics and drug discovery. The role involves designing, prototyping, and validating agentic approaches that integrate data, models, and expert knowledge to accelerate discovery across multiple therapeutic areas.

Responsibilities

• Build partnerships with medicinal chemists and scientists to identify high-impact opportunities for agentic workflows
• Design and prioritize a portfolio of scientific questions where agentic approaches can improve discovery quality or speed
• Develop and validate agentic prototypes in realistic discovery settings, combining expertise with data, models, and computational tools
• Evaluate agent behavior for scientific validity, reproducibility, uncertainty quantification, and robustness across scenarios
• Drive adoption of agentic capabilities by integrating them into familiar scientific environments and establishing human-agent collaboration patterns

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent substantial experience in cheminformatics, computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or related discipline
• Deep understanding of compound design, predictive models, and discovery decision-making
• Strong Python programming skills and experience developing automated workflows and scientific applications
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration and sound software development practices
• Ability to build partnerships across medicinal chemistry, CADD, biology, DMPK, and data science teams
• Experience designing scientifically meaningful use cases and establishing rigorous evaluation criteria
