Associate Principal Scientist, Separations Science

Merck seeks an Associate Principal Scientist in Separations Science to develop analytical methods supporting vaccine and biologic development. The role involves designing chromatography and characterization strategies within a collaborative analytical team at the West Point, Pennsylvania facility.
Responsibilities
- Develop analytical methods primarily for vaccine pipeline advancement and biologics characterization
- Partner with analytical and process teams to deploy innovative separation and analysis strategies
- Apply measurement science concepts and problem-solving approaches across specialized domains
- Contribute to accelerating development of new medicines and vaccines through scientific innovation
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field with formal training in bioanalytical separation techniques
- Hands-on experience with liquid chromatography variants (SEC, RPLC, IEX, HIC, Affinity) and detection methods
- Demonstrated expertise in large molecule chromatography and analytical method development
- Strong scientific communication through publications and conference presentations
- Ability to manage complex objectives under tight timelines in dynamic environments
- Cross-functional collaboration skills in academic or industrial research settings
- Foundational knowledge of multidimensional separation techniques (2DLC)
Compensation: $142,400–$224,100 base
