Principal Scientist - AI-Reasoning for Drug Discovery

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Principal Scientist to design an AI-reasoning platform for translational safety in drug discovery. The role focuses on developing multimodal AI systems and agent architectures that integrate scientific data across discovery, preclinical, clinical, and real-world evidence domains to accelerate therapeutic development.

Responsibilities

• Architect multimodal AI systems that synthesize scientific data into actionable insights for drug discovery acceleration
• Design next-generation agent memory systems enabling context-aware decision-making across discovery-to-development pipeline
• Establish uncertainty quantification frameworks and standards for trustworthy AI-driven scientific reasoning
• Lead research teams and mentor staff on computational drug discovery and emerging AI/ML applications
• Validate AI agent performance through rigorous benchmarking against human experts and establish publication-ready findings

Requirements

• Ph.D. in AI/ML, computer science, machine learning, data science, applied mathematics, or statistics with 2+ years experience
• Expertise in Bayesian inference, uncertainty quantification, information theory, causal inference, and graph neural networks
• Proficiency with agentic frameworks (LangGraph, DSPy, mem0) and deep learning platforms (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
• Advanced Python programming skills for scalable, production-ready solutions
• Demonstrated ability to lead small research teams
• Understanding of drug discovery pipeline and biological data types (preferred)
• Strong statistical knowledge and familiarity with cloud platforms AWS/Azure (preferred)
