ACTIVE LIVING PROGRAM MANAGER

Job Summary Perform intermediate professional work planning, organizing, implementing and promoting cultural, recreational and informational programs for older adults. The position is supervised by the Assistant Director and supervises Program Supervisor, Program Assistant, part-time staff and volunteers. Compensation Salary range: $52,852.80 - $63,169.60. Pay grade 19. Work Schedule Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Responsibilities Plan, develop, implement and evaluate programs to meet the cultural, recreational, educational and informational needs of older adults and adults with disabilities in the community. Supervise, train and evaluate staff; influence hiring and employment decisions. Coordinate programs with community agencies and sit on community committees. Manage Active Living Center facilities, book reservations, process forms, collect fees, coordinate maintenance and daily room set up. Collaborate with cultural, educational and civic groups to offer diverse programming. Recruit, plan, complete hiring paperwork and schedule all Active Living Center events. Plan and implement special events such as Silver Arts Follies and Seniors Christmas Party. Secure bids, plan menus and organize educational sessions for the weekly Lunch and Learn Program. Coordinate service‑based programs with county agencies and other organizations. Serve in various roles in the Senior Games program. Respond to citizen suggestions and inquiries for program improvements. Promote activities for older adults through various means. Attend meetings as required. Perform related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of older adult community characteristics, recreational resources, regulations, state and federal grant availability, office equipment and software. Ability to establish relationships with community officials and the public, prepare technical and financial reports and maintain records. Ability to attend work regularly. Minimum Education and Experience Graduation from an accredited college or university, major in recreation, leisure management, gerontology or related field preferred. Extensive professional experience in community or group recreation activities with older adults. Supervisory experience preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Special Requirements Valid driver’s license in North Carolina. CPR and first aid certification. Ann Johnson Institute of Senior Center Management certification preferred or must be obtained within five years. ServSafe certification required or required within six months. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including before and after hours and weekends. Physical Requirements Light work involving occasional lifting up to 20 pounds and frequent up to 10 pounds. Some tasks may require up to 50 pounds occasionally. Work requires crouching, reaching, repetitive motions, vocal communication, hearing, visual acuity. No adverse environmental conditions.
