JOB SUMMARY: The Universal Banker is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service by accurately processing a variety of financial transactions while identifying and meeting customers’ banking needs. This position processes teller transactions, opens and services consumer and commercial deposit accounts, obtains and maintains customer account information, and recommends bank products and services that best meet each customer’s financial goals. A successful Universal Banker is energetic, customer-focused, able to multitask in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrates strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills. Responsibilities and level of independence increase based on experience, knowledge, and demonstrated proficiency. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Customer Service & Relationship Management Research and resolve customer questions, concerns, and account issues while providing timely follow-up. Represent the Bank professionally within the community and participate in business development or community events as assigned. Deliver prompt, accurate, and professional service during all customer interactions. Build positive relationships by identifying customer financial needs and recommending appropriate bank products and services. Educate customers on available deposit products, lending services, electronic banking, debit card services, and other bank offerings. Generate referrals to lending, business services, investments, tax services, and other specialty areas. Teller Operations Process deposits, withdrawals, transfers, loan payments, cashier’s checks, money orders, cash advances, official checks, and other authorized transactions. Maintain and balance assigned cash drawer in accordance with Bank standards. Process night depository transactions and perform location opening and closing procedures. Assist with vault operations, ATM servicing and balancing, cash ordering, cash shipments, and branch cash management based on experience and assigned responsibilities. Process ancillary teller service transactions, including utility bill payments, license sticker renewals, property tax collections, and other authorized services. Identify and report suspicious transactions, counterfeit currency, fraud concerns, and unusual activity. Deposit Accounts & Customer Service Open, service, and maintain consumer and commercial deposit accounts appropriate to the employee’s level of training and proficiency. Complete account documentation, disclosures, and regulatory requirements accurately and timely. Perform account maintenance, including address changes, ownership updates, stop payments, debit card services, direct deposit changes, account closures, and other servicing requests. Assist customers with online banking, mobile banking, mobile deposit, bill pay, electronic statements, and other electronic banking services. Maintain accurate customer records while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Compliance & Operations Comply with all Bank policies, procedures, security standards, and regulatory requirements, including BSA/AML, CIP, OFAC, privacy, and consumer compliance regulations. Protect confidential customer information. Maintain operational accuracy while minimizing risk and adhering to internal controls. Complete required training and maintain current knowledge of banking regulations, products, and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. ADDITIONAL UNIVERSAL BANKER II DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Independently open, service, and maintain consumer and commercial deposit accounts. Perform complex account maintenance, including ownership changes, fiduciary and estate account servicing, and specialized account requests. Conduct comprehensive customer needs assessments and recommend appropriate financial solutions. Resolve complex customer service and operational issues independently. Perform advanced operational duties, including vault balancing, ATM settlement, branch cash management, and supervisor overrides. Serve as a resource for employees and assist with training and onboarding. Consistently achieve referral and relationship growth goals. ADDITIONAL UNIVERSAL BANKER III DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as a location subject matter expert for teller operations, deposit accounts, and relationship banking. Independently manage complex consumer and commercial deposit relationships, including fiduciary, estate, trust, nonprofit, and business accounts. Provide consultative financial solutions while consistently expanding customer relationships through proactive business development. Serve as the primary resource for resolving complex operational and customer service issues. Mentor and coach employers while assisting management with training and development. Review complex account documentation for accuracy and regulatory compliance. Lead advanced teller operations, including vault administration, ATM settlement, cash ordering, balancing discrepancies, and location cash management. Support location leadership by promoting operational efficiency, customer experience, and achievement of location production and referral goals. Exercise advanced judgment and decision-making within established authority while maintaining exceptional operational and regulatory compliance standards. TECHNICAL SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS: Cash handling, balancing, and transaction processing. Basic knowledge of consumer deposit products and account servicing. Ability to learn consumer and commercial account opening procedures and documentation requirements. Working knowledge of digital banking products and electronic banking services. Basic understanding of consumer banking regulations, including BSA/AML, CIP, OFAC, and privacy requirements. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and bank operating systems. Ability to accurately navigate multiple banking software applications. Ability to identify customer needs and make appropriate referrals. ADDITIONAL UNIVERSAL BANKER II SKILLS Proficient in independently opening and servicing consumer and commercial deposit accounts. Advanced knowledge of deposit documentation and account maintenance. Ability to resolve complex customer service and operational issues independently Proficiency in vault operations, branch cash management, ATM balancing, and supervisor override procedures. Ability to train and assist employees with technical and operational processes. ADDITIONAL UNIVERSAL BANKER III SKILLS Expert knowledge of consumer and commercial banking products and relationship management. Advanced proficiency in serving complex consumer, business, fiduciary, trust, and estate accounts. Strong business development and consultative sales skills. Ability to mentor and coach employees. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment in complex operational and customer situations. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required. One (1) year of customer service, cash handling, retail, sales, or banking experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service and build positive customer relationships. Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations and maintain attention-to-detail. Ability to obtain and maintain knowledge of bank products, services, policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. ADDITIONAL UNIVERSAL BANKER II QUALIFICATIONS Associate degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field preferred; equivalent banking experience may be substituted. Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible retail banking or financial services experience preferred. ADDITIONAL UNIVERSAL BANKER III QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field preferred; equivalent banking experience may be substituted. Four (4) or more years of progressively responsible retail banking or financial services experience preferred. Demonstrated success in relationship banking, business development, and mentoring or training employees. WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND DEMANDS: Work is performed primarily in a retail banking environment with frequent interaction with customers and employees. Ability to work a schedule that supports the bank’s operating hours, including weekdays 7:45 am – 6:15 pm, Saturdays on rotation 7:45 am – 12:45 pm, and occasional overtime or travel to other locations as business needs require. Frequent standing and walking for extended periods throughout the workday. Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, keyboards, calculators, cash handling equipment, and other office machinery. Frequent verbal communication and hearing to effectively interact with customers and coworkers in person and by telephone. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, reports, account information, and computer screens. Ability to perform repetitive movements, including reaching, grasping, bending, and occasional kneeling. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds, including coin bags, cash drawers, supplies, and office materials. Ability to maintain concentration and accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and multiple priorities. Ability to travel occasionally between branch locations or attend training, meetings, and community events as business needs require.
