LEGAL ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIALIST (CASE MANAGER)

Duties If selected, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing a range of legal and administrative support services to attorneys in complex criminal or civil matters. Providing technical and analytical assistance to support the litigation needs of the United States Attorney's Office; Performing a variety of litigation support functions necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop, manage, and track exhibits, evidence and data in criminal and civil cases and matters; Assisting attorneys and legal staff in organizing voluminous case information for efficient retrieval; Managing complex electronically stored information (ESI); Processing electronically stored information (ESI) using appropriate tools; Building databases in review software; Training legal support staff on use of processing software, tools, and equipment used in performance of duties; Applying knowledge of court programs, automation requirements, and characteristics to resolve problems. Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable. If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period. Qualifications GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, or a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service or equivalent paid/non-paid experience in the private or public sector. Specialized Experience is defined as experience in a legal environment independently performing a range of legal and administrative services in support of discovery, case development, and/or hearing or trial preparation. Examples include: Coordinating with outside partners to facilitate the collection or production of discovery materials, such as by making recommendations on the formats in which materials are to be provided and providing input on language to include in subpoenas or discovery requests; Organizing, preparing, and routing electronic discovery materials for processing; Assisting attorneys with the analysis of discovery or evidentiary materials, including identifying information supporting claims or defenses in assigned cases; Drafting legal documents and correspondence that require knowledge of legal and factual issues involved in assigned cases, such as routine motions and written summaries of witness statements or documentary evidence; Utilizing a variety of software applications to conceptualize and create exhibits and demonstrations, including timelines, charts, and PowerPoint presentations, for use in legal proceedings. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Paralegal Sciences, Law): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. Additional Information Payment of relocation expenses will not be authorized.
