EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Clean rooms, corridors, offices and other spaces of a county owned or operated school building or buildings. Painting when necessary. Clean, wax, polish, and buff floors. Wash windows, woodwork, toilets, lavatories, walls, washrooms and fixtures; dusts and polishes furniture; vacuum rugs. Empty and clean trash baskets and other waste receptacles. Handle supplies and materials arriving at or departing from buildings. Move furniture and set up for programs. Lock and unlock premises and perform other security tasks such as watchman rounds to guard against fire, theft and vandalism. Sweep, sand, clean and shovel snow from stairs and walks. Participate in preventative maintenance programs in-house and with outside contractors as required for electrical equipment, appliances, oil burners, fire extinguishers, refrigeration systems, air conditioners, heating and ventilation systems, facilities repairs, etc. Make general repairs of a simple nature, to facilities and equipment, paint, change light bulbs and refinish wooden floors. Practice proper and safe use of all materials utilized on the job. Communicate with the department head when in doubt or when questions arise. Observe and practice safe work habits at all times. Keep the outside entrance areas to all doorways neat, clean and free of litter. Perform other work assignments as directed. Such assignments may include assisting in other departments in the school.

QUALIFICATIONS:

General: Demonstrated ability to work in a caring, positive, constructive and cooperative manner with students, staff, administrators, parents, volunteers and all others. Dependability in attendance, work ethic, consistent high quality work and productivity. Demonstrated ability to communicate with people effectively. Demonstrates confidentiality in personnel and student matters. Ability to work independently as well as a team with other staff members. Be a role model for students and the general public at large. Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel to workshops, meetings, or other necessary functions. Willingness to work overtime as needed, including weekends. Specific: Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Considerable knowledge of materials, equipment and methods commonly employed in housekeeping-cleaning operations. Ability to operate and care for electric sweepers, buffers and vacuums as well as mops. Experience in a variety of maintenance skills including tools and equipment utilized in maintenance and repair work. Physical ability to withstand the strain of performing manual tasks. Ability to lift 40 lbs. Working knowledge of the type, properties, quality and uses of cleaning supplies and equipment and their effect on various types of construction and finishes. Must be well organized. Ability to be self-motivated to recognize what needs to be done. Be available for working extra hours when outside groups are on campus during non-school hours. BENEFITS:

15 sick days annually, 3 personal days, and health and dental plans are available, with the county paying 70% of premiums. A $10,000.00 life insurance policy while an active employee. Upon retirement, it reduces to a $5,000.00 benefit.

REPRESENTATION:

The American Federation of Teachers represents teachers and support staff of Norfolk County Agricultural High School. COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience, in accordance with the terms of the Support Staff Contract. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Director of Maintenance/Facilities and Security and/or the custodial supervisor. HOURS: 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. when school is in session.* 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. when school is not in session *Unless weather conditions or other emergencies require flexibility in hours.
