Groundskeeper

Qualifications:

• Ability to perform work involving physical strength and endurance
• Ability to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions
• Ability to work from ladder or scaffolding
• Ability to follow directions, oral and written
• Ability to use backhoe, front-end loader, etc.
• At least three years' experience using groundskeeping and/or farm related equipment
• Knowledge of shrubs, grasses, fertilizers, insecticides and soils
• Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain upon employment
• Must obtain limited lawn and ornamental license within one (1) year of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent

*Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the superintendent may find appropriate.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Observes all safe practices when using tools, equipment, and chemicals.
2. Works effectively with, cooperates with, and supports other employees.
3. Performs tasks with minimal supervision.
4. Maintains records as directed by the Plant Operations Manager.
5. Maintains and cares for school grounds.
6. Prepares areas for seeding and/or planting shrubs, plants, seeds, sets out shrubbery, prunes trees and trims hedges to improve appearance of grounds.
7. Cultivates and cleans away weeds around shrubs.
8. Mows lawns with hand mowers and/or tractors.
9. Waters grass and plants as directed.
10. Treats plants with insecticide or fungicide as directed.
11. Adjusts, sharpens blades, services and makes minor repairs on lawn mowers or tractors.
12. Spreads fertilizer on grass or shrubs as prescribed.
13. Fills holes on grounds.
14. Hauls refuse to dump.
15. Sprays weed killer at fence lines, etc. as directed.
16. Assists in moving furniture and equipment from school to school.
17. Drives school board vehicles.
18. Completes reports on duties performed at work sites.
19. Takes appropriate action to correct safety deficiencies.
20. Patches blacktop in the district's parking lots.
21. Operates the tractor with front end loader and backhoe or box blades.
22. Performs other job-related functions as may be assigned.
