As leader, the Chief will be responsible for growth and advancement of research, faculty recruitment and development, scholarly activity, and clinical and teaching excellence. The new Chief will shape the growth of nephrology services across the RWJBarnabas/Rutgers Health System, a $5 Billion enterprise that cares for about 40 % of all New Jersey residents. In concert with the Department, School, and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), the Division Chief will expand interdisciplinary and translational research within the division. The Division currently aims to be a nationally recognized program that advances clinical, educational, research, and scholarly activities. It includes well‑developed general nephrology and transplant programs. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced physician leader to work in an advanced healthcare market, expanding services with the clinical and operational support of one of the nation’s leading health systems. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the incoming Chief must be passionate about building collaborative research programs, mentoring junior faculty, and advancing the nephrology practice on the national and international stage. The Division will be supported with the funds necessary to meet a high standard of excellence in clinical care, research, and education. Responsibilities • Lead and oversee all clinical, research, educational and administrative functions of the Division of Nephrology. • Develop and implement strategic plans to expand nephrology services and interdisciplinary collaboration within the RWJBarnabas/Rutgers Health System. • Recruit, hire, mentor and retain high‑caliber faculty and staff, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. • Promote and support basic, translational, clinical, and health‑services research, securing external funding and building partnerships. • Ensure high quality clinical care and teaching excellence in accordance with institutional standards. • Engage with community physician leaders to advance delivery of care to health‑system patient populations and improve systems and processes for efficiency. Qualifications Minimum education: MD, DO, PhD or equivalent, board certified in Internal Medicine or Nephrology. Demonstrated outstanding leadership experience with administrative skill, communication, and a record of clinical and research productivity. Actively funded research program in basic, translational, clinical, or health‑services research. Strong academic credentials and a distinguished record of accomplishments across teaching, research, and clinical mission. Creative vision to develop a superior nephrology program and ability to engage faculty, set expectations, and develop careers. Physical Demands and Work Environment Typical academic medical center environment; duties may include extended periods of desk work, clinical patient care, and occasional travel.
