Job SummaryWe are currently seeking a Lead Systems Engineer. This position is a full-time opportunity located in Columbus, OH.The selected candidate will lead advanced systems engineering research and analysis, oversee quality-control reviews, analyze requirements and system performance, and prepare and review technical documents. This role applies expert-level systems engineering principles and practices to highly complex assignments while collaborating with engineers, technical specialists, project teams, and clients.The Lead Systems Engineer will direct system architecture, interface definition, integration, verification, validation, and test-planning activities, and will provide technical leadership and direction to engineers and technical support staff to ensure project work is delivered within schedule and budget constraints.ResponsibilitiesAs a Lead Systems Engineer, the selected individual will serve as a technical leader, driving the application of advanced systems engineering principles across the full lifecycle of complex technical systems. Responsibilities may include:Leads technical projects or major technical tasks within larger programs, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery while maintaining technical rigor and qualityDirects system architecture, interface definition, integration, verification, validation, and test-planning activities across multidisciplinary teamsProvides technical direction and coordinates the efforts of engineers and technical support staff, serving as a subject matter authority on systems engineering processesAnalyzes requirements and system performance and leads the development and evaluation of technical alternatives to support sound engineering decisionsBuilds and maintains strategic relationships with internal and external clients; presents technical and research results through formal and informal presentationsLeads quality-control reviews, performs data reporting, and prepares and reviews technical documents to ensure accuracy and compliancePrepares technical specifications and analyzes technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for evaluating requirements and system performancePerforms complex systems engineering analyses by compiling and evaluating design and test dataAnalyzes and interprets collected technical data to support engineering decisions and recommendationsCommunicates with clients regarding the schedule and quality of assigned deliverablesApplies systems engineering techniques and processes to support project objectives within established constraintsMay support Battelle-sponsored conferences, scientific conferences, peer-review panels, publications, or other activities that increase company visibilityKey QualificationsBachelor's degree in a related field with 8 years of experience, a master's degree in a related field with 5 years of experience, or a PhD with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related fieldDemonstrated expertise applying systems engineering methodologies throughout the full system lifecycle, with a track record of technical leadership on complex programsExperience developing, decomposing, allocating, tracing, and verifying requirements using recognized systems engineering practices and standards such as INCOSE guidance, ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, or EARSExperience leading system integration, verification, validation, and testing activities and creating associated artifactsExperience performing and leading complex systems engineering analyses involving requirements, system performance, design data, or test dataExperience preparing and reviewing technical specifications, reports, presentations, and other engineering artifactsExperience analyzing and interpreting technical data to support and communicate engineering decisions and recommendationsExpert understanding of systems engineering processes, including requirements development, architecture design, integration, verification, validation, risk management, and technical planningDemonstrated experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teamsExceptional analytical, technical-writing, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skillsProven ability to communicate technical results and deliverable status effectively to internal and external clients at all levelsU.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearancePreferred QualificationsExperience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DOE), National Security, Nuclear, Aerospace, or other highly regulated technical programsExperience with MBSE and digital engineering toolsets such as Cameo Systems Modeler (MagicDraw), IBM Rhapsody, Teamcenter, Windchill, Cradle, or similar toolsExperience with requirements-management tools such as IBM DOORS, DOORS Next, Polarion, or similar requirements-management platformsExperience leading small-to-medium technical projects or serving as a technical task lead within larger programsActive DoD Secret security clearanceCompensation DataBattelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $128,800 – $183,600 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
