Senior Mechanical Engineer

HVAC/Tunnel Ventilation & Fire Life Safety EngineerMott MacDonald is actively seeking a HVAC/Tunnel Ventilation & Fire Life Safety Engineer for immediate employment in our Los Angeles office to work in the Tunnels and Building Sciences Group. This position will afford an opportunity to work within a specialized group of professionals in the assessment and development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs for major road and rail transportation projects and related underground or enclosed structures and overbuilds. The position provides great potential for professional advancement and in-house training.The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:Designing mechanical (HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection) systems using engineering calculations and preparing design drawings and specifications under the direction of senior engineers or project managersPerform studies, evaluations and preliminary designPrepare contract documents including drawings, specifications and calculationsLead tasks and supervise junior engineers within larger scale projectsEnsuring accuracy of design and contract documentsInnovative mechanical design and analysisDesign services during construction – submittal and RFI reviewSupport or lead proposal developmentSome project managementMinimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mining, or equivalent engineering degree from an Accredited four-year college or university.PE License in Mechanical and Fire Protection8 + years of experience in HVAC/tunnel ventilation design and fire protection designKnowledge of Revit, Trace 700, HAP, Pipeflo softwareExperience with ventilation equipment installationsFamiliarity with fans, controls, and fire life safety codes and standards (NFPA, AMCA, ASHRAE) with emphasis on NFPA 130 and NFPA 502Working knowledge of Building Codes and NFPA standardsGood verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of common office softwareSelf-motivated and experienced in performing calculations and delivering quality workDemonstrated abilities to work within project timeframes and budget constraintsAbility to travel to clients and job sites and be willing to attend meetings after regular business hours – some travel may be required.Preferred Qualifications:Master's DegreeFamiliarity with mechanical, fire protection, and egress assessmentFamiliarity with Fire Life Safety mechanical equipment inspection, testing and implementationExperience with Design-Build pursuit or Design-Build Plans and Specifications productionBenefits & RewardAt Mott MacDonald, our employees have a stake and a voice in our business, providing them with a direct connection to our success through our personal and group performance bonuses.
