Entry-Level Deckhand - Gulf Division

divh2Deckhand/h2pDeckhands are primarily responsible for the safety of fellow crewmembers, the vessel, the cargo, and the environment. They perform tasks associated with building and breaking tow, as well as vessel cleanliness and maintenance. Tasks are carried out in all weather conditions, both outside and within the confines of the vessel, while navigating the western rivers./ph3Responsibilities:/h3ulliBuild and break tow effectively./liliInspect, correct, and/or notify others of any conditions that affect the safety of individuals or cargo./liliHandle rigging during tow building, locking, and landing work, ensuring the proper fitting of cables, wires, and lines, and use appropriate tools for adjustments as needed./liliSafely secure barges with cables, wires, and lines while being environmentally conscious./liliPerform basic vessel maintenance, including painting, cleaning, and basic engine room maintenance./liliCommunicate clearly on a VHF radio; understand and implement instructions provided by the vessel Captain./liliEffectively use all safety equipment as required by company policies./liliResponsible for maintaining personal hygiene; ensure the cleanliness and safety of own bunkroom and collaborate with the crew to uphold similar standards in public spaces./liliPerform assigned firefighting, man overboard and abandon ship duties as assigned on the Station Bill./li/ulh3Minimum Requirements:/h3ulliStrictly follow all CTC policies, as well as adhere to USCG and federal regulations./liliMust possess or ability to possess Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)/liliPass pre-employment drug test and submit to random DOT testing requirements./liliPass pre-employment physical./liliPossess a valid drivers license for operation of any of the companys vehicles. (Gulf Division only)/li/ulh3Preferred Qualifications:/h3ulliHigh School Diploma or GED/liliPrior experience in a similar position within the marine transportation industry/liliPrior experience in a safety sensitive position/li/ulh3Physical Requirements:/h3pThe unpredictable, ever-changing, and inherently dangerous nature of towboat operations requires the crew members to be physically qualified to ensure his/her own safety, as well as that of the vessel and entire crew. Specific physical requirements include:/pulliTraverse boats, barges, and tows a minimum of two (2) miles per day, including on wet or slick surfaces./liliTransport equipment of 60 to 100 pounds up to 1000 feet./liliAscend/Descend a 90 degree ladder up to 40 feet./liliMove, transport, and position equipment up to 100 pounds./liliPosition self to move through 18-inch diameter hatch./liliMove two (2) feet horizontally and vertically./liliMaintain constant communication with crew members./liliAbility to recognize and identify distant objects and recognize distances between objects./liliConstantly work in outdoor weather conditions./liliWork shifts a min. of 12 hrs.
