Radiation TherapistThe Radiation Therapist applies ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. The Radiation Therapist is responsible for helping in the efficient operation of the radiation department and ensuring safe patient care.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDelivers precisely the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervisionChecks prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient identificationExplains procedure to patient, means of communication during treatment and procedure to follow if emergency arises during treatmentReinforces Radiation Oncologist's advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and their carePrepares room and equipment for patient according to prescription regarding immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, lead protection devices, etc.Transfers patient safely to treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, intravenous drips, etc.Checks daily treatment time and delivers prescribed doseMaintains visual and audible communication with the patient at all times during treatmentMaintains patient markings. Observes patient for unusual reactions, events and reports accurate information to the nursing staff and/or Radiation OncologistObserves radiation safety measures for patient and personnelPerform simulationsAssists in tumor localization procedures, preparation of immobilization devices, etc.Assists in dosimetry procedures (i.e. Prescription calculations)Obtains weekly port films and present such at chart rounds for review by Radiation Oncology staffMaintains records of daily treatment and other records as required by department quality assurance and quality improvement activitiesPerforms mold room duties (DRH and RCH)Reports erratic operation of equipment to Chief Radiation therapist, Radiation Physicist and/or Medical EngineerAdheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies and proceduresOther duties as assignedMinimum Requirements:Associate's Degree, if required by state regulations/licensing requirementsCurrent Licensure as a Radiation Therapist, as required by state regulations or contract specificationOne (1) year of experience as a Radiation Therapist preferredComplies with all relevant professional standards of practiceParticipation and completion of Amergis Competency program when applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable to job siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of ageBenefits At AmergisCompetitive pay & weekly paychecksHealth, dental, vision, and life insurance401(k) savings planAwards and recognition programs
