Assistant Director of Financial Aid

Job Overview Denison University seeks an Assistant Director of Financial Aid. Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, this role performs various functions related to federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, including awarding, monitoring, and reporting. The Assistant Director provides excellent customer service and counseling to prospective and current students, serves as a liaison for the Office of Financial Aid to the Denison community, and advances the goals of the Division of Enrollment Management in support of the university’s strategic plan. Essential Job Functions Determine student eligibility for financial aid programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. Ensure accurate and timely processing of financial aid. Analyze and monitor aid data and financial documents to verify eligibility. Manage counseling and awarding caseload. Counsel students and parents about the financial aid process, including eligibility, verification, awards, costs, debt management, and financial literacy. Work collaboratively with staff and faculty to execute and improve financial aid services. Prepare and give presentations regarding financial aid for campus and high‑school groups. Represent the University in a professional manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required. Professional experience working in college financial aid or a closely related field. Current, valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under Denison’s liability insurance policy. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of federal financial aid programs and processes (FAFSA, student eligibility, verification, satisfactory academic progress). Ability to effectively present and respond to questions from managers, colleagues, students, families, and the public as a financial aid representative. Proficiency with technology for administering and reporting financial aid. Strong presentation, written, and verbal communication skills; outstanding listener with relational skills. Innovative problem solver who collaborates across teams to build relationships and foster accountability. Integrity and excellent judgment, collaborative and collegial, yet able to work independently with internal and external stakeholders. Exceptional work ethic, organizational prioritization, and multitasking with a high standard of accuracy. Ability to maintain confidentiality and appreciable balance in daily work. Two or more years of experience in college financial aid, preferably at a private institution. Experience with College Board’s CSS Profile, IDOC, PowerFAIDS, and Institutional Methodology (IM).
