Associate Designer

Design and support substation projects in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts Develop detailed engineering designs using computer-aided techniques Develop final detailed design packages with engineering, construction, design, and vendor personnel Prepare conceptual designs and sketches based on field investigations, project scope, and engineering criteria Perform field visits to verify site conditions, resolve field issues, and verify design accuracy Guide, train, and direct design drafters in developing finished drawings Perform technical calculations for substation designs Prepare, approve, and maintain bills of materials and supporting design documents Process, review, and approve design changes for field-related problems Verify as-built conditions of design documents Assist with department standards development in accordance with utility industry practices Review and approve vendor projects Provide design input to engineers for project development Support additional equipment, materials, or services for construction Provide design services to Engineering for federal, state, and local license submittals Perform storm duty and emergency restoration assignments as required Requirements Eversource will not offer immigration-related sponsorship; applicants requiring visa sponsorship to start employment will not be considered Working knowledge of electrical systems, including wiring, one-line, three-line, and schematic diagrams Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards Ability to apply department design/drafting standards and procedures Ability to communicate ideas and directions effectively, both written and orally Ability to apply basic electrical theory, technical mathematics, and basic science Associate of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology Zero (0) to two (2) years of directly related utility design, wiring, or technical experience preferred Valid motor vehicle operator’s license Availability for emergency restoration assignments and storm duty Availability to travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire as necessary Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in electrical systems design and engineering, with a strong focus on substation projects and compliance with industry codes and standards.
