We are looking for an experienced Interface Specialist to join our Tampa team and help support, develop, and maintain the integrations that connect PracticeSuite with external healthcare systems, vendors, laboratories, pharmacies, clearinghouses, and other healthcare technology platforms.
Position Overview
The Interface Specialist will be responsible for developing, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting healthcare interfaces using Mirth Interface Engine.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with Mirth, HL7, SQL, JavaScript, APIs, XML, and JSON, and understands how healthcare data moves between EHR, practice management, laboratory, billing, and other systems.
This position requires a highly analytical individual who can investigate complex interface issues, identify root causes, and work closely with Engineering, Support, Implementation, and other teams to ensure reliable data exchange for PracticeSuite customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot healthcare interfaces using Mirth Interface Engine.
- Build and support inbound and outbound HL7 interfaces between PracticeSuite and external healthcare systems.
- Work with HL7 message types such as ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, DFT, and other healthcare transactions.
- Create and maintain Mirth channels, connectors, filters, transformers, mappings, and JavaScript logic.
- Analyze HL7 messages and troubleshoot data transformation and routing issues.
- Monitor production interfaces and proactively identify failed or delayed transactions.
- Investigate interface errors and determine root causes.
- Work with SQL databases to validate, investigate, and troubleshoot healthcare data.
- Develop and troubleshoot integrations using REST/SOAP APIs, JSON, and XML.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams on new interface development and enhancements.
- Work with Implementation and Support teams to resolve customer integration issues.
- Coordinate with external vendors and healthcare organizations when troubleshooting connectivity or interoperability issues.
- Perform interface testing, validation, deployment, and post-deployment monitoring.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation for interface configurations, mappings, workflows, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Assist with improving interface reliability, performance, monitoring, and automation.
- Support production issues and participate in escalation processes when required.
- Follow PracticeSuite security, privacy, and data-handling requirements, including applicable HIPAA requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional experience working with healthcare interfaces or integrations.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Mirth Interface Engine.
- Strong practical knowledge of HL7 and healthcare interoperability.
- Experience developing and troubleshooting HL7 interfaces in a production environment.
- Strong JavaScript skills, particularly for Mirth Connect transformations and scripting.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.
- Experience with REST/SOAP APIs, XML, and JSON.
- Experience troubleshooting healthcare data and integration issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple integration issues/projects.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience integrating with EHR/EMR and Practice Management systems.
- Experience with healthcare billing and RCM systems.
- Knowledge of FHIR.
- Experience with X12/EDI transactions.
- Experience with SFTP, TCP/IP, VPNs, and other integration technologies.
- Experience with healthcare clearinghouses, laboratories, pharmacies, or other healthcare vendors.
- Experience with interface monitoring and logging.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data security requirements.
- Experience with Git or other version-control systems.
- Experience working in a healthcare SaaS environment.
What Success Looks Like
In this role, success means maintaining reliable and accurate data exchange between PracticeSuite and external healthcare systems. You will be expected to quickly identify integration issues, minimize disruptions to customers, develop stable interfaces, and continuously improve the reliability and efficiency of our integration environment.
Work Environment
This is a full-time, on-site position in PracticeSuite's Tampa, Florida office. The successful candidate should be comfortable working collaboratively with Engineering, Support, Implementation, Product, and other teams in an office-based environment.
