This role focuses on assembling cauterizing surgical instruments and other medical devices in a full cleanroom environment. You will follow detailed written procedures, use microscopes and specialized equipment for micro-assembly work, and complete accurate production documentation. The position requires strong attention to detail, fine motor skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced setting while meeting established quality and quantity standards.

Responsibilities

• Assemble cauterizing surgical instruments and other medical devices in a cleanroom environment according to established procedures, sequence, and pace.
• Work on two or more product lines and consistently meet or exceed quantity standards established by leadership.
• Read, reference, and explain written line procedures to demonstrate understanding of Quality System Policies.
• Complete and maintain accurate written records of manufacturing operations, including Device History Records, data sheets, and lot control documentation following appropriate training.
• Understand and carry out instructions from assigned leadership regarding priorities, work schedules, special assignments, job standards, and other information required to build medical devices.
• Adapt to changes in procedures and learn new processes due to product line and technology modifications.
• Cross-train on a variety of product line operations as needed to support production flexibility.
• Assist higher-level assemblers or leads with training procedures when requested.
• Apply a general understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles to help improve established metrics and support continuous improvement activities.
• Proactively inform leadership of material shortages or issues that may affect production schedules.
• Maintain a safe work environment by following housekeeping and safety guidelines and policies, including ergonomics, job rotation, stretching exercises, tool handling, and preventive maintenance.
• Use time effectively and constructively, remain in the work area, avoid idle conversation that disrupts others or operations, and respect break times.
• Participate in Shared Leadership activities such as Kanban management, calibration, and metrics board maintenance.
• Operate manufacturing and measurement equipment following training, including microscopes, test equipment, EFDs, ultrasonic welders, soldering irons, dial calipers, pressure gauges, and rulers.
• Perform micro-assembly tasks using microscopes daily in a fast-paced environment.
• Communicate with supervisors, leads, and team members via telephone, email, and in person as needed.
• Follow Good Documentation Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices to maintain high-quality standards and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain confidentiality of documents, processes, and proprietary information.
• Work overtime and varying shifts, including weekdays and Saturdays, as needed to support production demands.
• Perform all other essential duties as directed by leadership.

Essential Skills

• 1 year or more of previous medical device assembly or ISO-certified assembly experience required.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred with 1 to 2 years of previous medical device assembly or ISO-certified assembly experience.
• In lieu of a high school diploma, 2 to 3 years of previous medical device assembly or ISO-certified assembly experience required.
• Demonstrated experience working on multiple medical device product lines at or above quantity standards.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow verbal and written work instructions and documented procedures.
• Strong fine motor skills, high degree of manual dexterity, and excellent handeye coordination for working with small parts and subassemblies using both hands.
• Ability to perform repetitive work according to set procedures, sequence, and pace in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work effectively in a cleanroom environment and follow all cleanroom practices and procedures.
• Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) necessary to perform job duties.
• Ability to communicate clearly by telephone, email, and in person with supervisors, leads, and team members.
• Ability to work overtime and varying shifts, including weekdays and Saturdays, as required.
• Ability to use microscopes daily for micro-assembly tasks.
• Ability to maintain accurate production documentation, including Device History Records, data sheets, and lot control records.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of documents and processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with soldering and hand bonding preferred.
• Knowledge of Good Documentation Practice (GDP) preferred.
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) preferred.
• General understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles preferred.
• Experience with medical assembly, micro-assembly, sewing, and working with small parts is beneficial.
• Ability to operate manufacturing and measurement equipment such as microscopes, test equipment, EFDs, ultrasonic welders, soldering irons, dial calipers, pressure gauges, and rulers following training.
• Basic MS Windows skills and ability to use site-specific PC programs after training.
• Ability to participate in Shared Leadership activities such as Kanban management, calibration, and metrics board maintenance.

Work Environment

This position is based in a medical device manufacturing facility with a full cleanroom environment. Team members wear hair nets, gowns, booties, and other appropriate cleanroom attire and must wash their hands each time before entering the cleanroom. Makeup is not permitted in the cleanroom to maintain strict contamination control. Work is performed at stations that may include lean/sit stools and standing positions, with efforts underway to provide stools across all lines requiring standing. The environment is fast-paced and production-focused, with daily use of microscopes for micro-assembly work and regular operation of specialized manufacturing and measurement equipment. Safety, ergonomics, good housekeeping, and adherence to cleanroom practices are integral parts of the daily work experience, and overtime or Saturday work may be required based on production needs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomington, MN.

The pay range for this position is $20.80 - $22.88/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
