CPW Area Wildlife Biologist (WILDLIFE MANAGER III) - Montrose, CO

Job Overview Position for Area Wildlife Biologist (WM III) in the CPW Terrestrial Species Conservation Section, Montrose Service Center/Area 18. Responsibilities Formulate and present wildlife management recommendations based on data collection, modeling, and analysis. Develop, plan, and conduct wildlife and habitat inventories for management decisions. Analyze environmental statements, natural resource plans, and other decision documents to minimize impacts on wildlife and habitats. Conduct wildlife and habitat management studies, including capture, mark, monitor, and data analysis. Collaborate with CPW Habitat Unit, Field Operations, procurement, and other agencies to implement habitat management programs. Develop and implement wildlife and habitat management plans, negotiating options and writing final plans. Educate and inform the public on wildlife and habitat management through outreach to hunters, schools, and media. Perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of professional experience in wildlife research, wildlife management, conservation biology, or related fields. A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in wildlife biology, conservation biology, natural resources management, or related field. Alternatively, a combination of related education (biology, environmental science, fisheries/wildlife biology, conservation biology, wildlife management, zoology, ecology, ichthyology, or another closely related science-based degree) and at least two (2) years of professional experience equal to six (6) years total. Preferred Qualifications Current or former Colorado Parks and Wildlife work or volunteer experience. Experience with species of conservation concern. Professional writing, research, and communication skills. Experience with GIS software. Understanding of local, state, and federal conservation planning and rulemaking processes. Ability to operate ATVs or side‑by‑side vehicles. Experience facilitating meetings. Familiarity with the flora and fauna of western Colorado. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Master's degree in wildlife biology, conservation biology, natural resources, or related field. Required Competencies Strong written and oral communication skills. Excellent organization and time‑management skills with ability to prioritize multiple projects. Ability to work independently and in challenging outdoor environments. Ability to safely operate 4WD vehicles. Conditions of Employment Open only to residents of the State of Colorado at the time of application. Travel required approximately 12 nights per year.
