Early Childhood Teacher Assistant/Aide Location: Hartford, CT. Summary Be part of a classroom teaching team, sharing in observation, assessment, curriculum planning and commitment in making an impact in a child's life. This position assists the Assistant Teacher in assuring appropriate operations of the assigned classroom, implementing all Office of Early Childhood (OEC) and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) requirements, and providing welcoming customer service to all children, parents, guests, and fellow employees. Duties Treat each child, co-worker and family with dignity and respect. View family‑teacher relationship as a partnership, focusing on each child's strengths and abilities with common goals. Assist lead teacher in working in partnership with families, establishing ongoing positive communication, respecting boundaries, and maintaining confidentiality even in complex situations. Interact with children to foster learning relationships. Demonstrate familiarity with and use of the CT ELDS text during planning. Support children's learning across the domains (Social Emotional, Physical, Cognitive and Creative) using developmentally appropriate practice, materials, interactions, and expectations. Plan with the team to meet individual needs and provide enriched learning environments. Provide ongoing differentiated instruction to meet needs of children as identified by various assessments. Use, model and promote positive guidance and behavioral techniques. Assist lead teacher in developing and following a daily schedule that incorporates best practice through consistent routines and a balance of child/teacher‑initiated experiences. Know and implement accordingly the CT DOTS (Documentation & Observation for Teaching System). Enter observations and identify levels/benchmarks into the data systems during scheduled planning day(s) with the team; assist lead teacher in preparing for and communicating with parents during family conferences; participate in additional conferences requested by the center or parent. Assist lead teacher in communicating and setting goals with consultants to best meet needs of children with IEPs, IFSPs or other supports; plan and implement as part of the weekly learning. Ensure a safe and healthy environment at all times by monitoring child areas for hazards or sanitation problems and correcting problems immediately; utilize consistent use of the Health and Safety & Classroom Management Forms. Provide appropriate adult supervision and maintain ratios for all children at all times. Promote good hygiene through appropriate handwashing, diapering and sanitation protocols according to WLCDC policies and procedures. Comply and operate the classroom with all licensing regulations, NAEYC criteria and WLCDC policies and procedures. Enforce all safety policies and procedures, understand and implement emergency procedures as needed. Maintain current medical/emergency certifications in First Aid, CPR and Medication Administration. Attend staff meetings, family meetings/events and other mandatory in‑services both during and after regular center hours. Promote WLCDC policies and procedures as well as the NAEYC code of ethics. Attend additional workshops, trainings and continuing education courses as required. Assist in supervising and training teacher aids, substitutes, and volunteers. Assist training substitutes, assistants, floaters, volunteers or others who may be permanently or temporarily assigned to the classroom. Improve personal performance through ongoing reflection and feedback from supervisors. Develop an annual individualized professional development plan with supervisor and use it to guide and improve personal practice and professional development. Ensure continuity of care for children by reporting to work on time and maintaining consistent attendance. Interact with all staff as a team member to ensure optimum program quality. Other Functions Perform special assignments and projects as assigned. Perform related duties as required. Requirements Minimum of 1–2 years of professional child care experience. High energy. Ability to work well with others. Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills. Understanding of child development. Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification. Must clear full background check and pass health screening.
