Nursing Station Clerk/NSC Trainee - Part Time Day Shift (7:00 AM -3:30 PM)

Position Summary Nursing Station Clerks 1 are assigned to inpatient or outpatient units and are responsible for daily patient contact. Responsibilities include greeting visitors and directing them to appropriate locations, answering telephones, performing data entry, maintaining daily and clinical logs, preparing and updating patient charts and files, filling out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions, mailing patient letters, and delivering supplies and records to assigned units. Duties Orient patients and/or families to the unit, providing general information and serving as a contact person. Provide information on patient condition within existing policies and direct visitors to appropriate locations. Process physician orders by recording written orders in charts, kardex, flag sheets, or directly into a computer file after review by a Registered Nurse, and by filling out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions. Receive new admissions. Prepare and maintain patient charts, daily logs, and clinic logs. Qualifications Eligible List Appointment: Must be on the Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk 1. Provisional Appointment: If no eligible list exists, candidates may receive a temporary provisional appointment requiring one year of full‑time clerical, secretarial, or patient care experience in a health‑care setting. Provisional candidates must take the examination and be reachable on the resulting eligible list. 55b/c Appointment: Position is eligible for 55b/c designation; candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter. Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title approved for transfer to Nursing Station Clerk 1. Required Documentation & Pre‑Employment Requirements Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services. Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references. Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen. Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings. Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Failure to comply with any of the above requirements may result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer. Employment Conditions Salary Range: $36,232 - $38,235 per year (pro‑rated by part‑time hours). Salary is based on the candidate’s verified years of comparable experience.
