The Communications Coordinator serves as a key partner in the ministry of the church. Every message CBC sends is an opportunity to draw people deeper into the life of the church — into worship, community, and service. As Communications Coordinator, you'll steward that voice: clarifying what God is doing among us, equipping members to respond, and ensuring no one misses an opportunity to belong or serve because information didn't reach them. It's an opportunity to use your gifts, not merely to inform, but to help form a church body that is unified, engaged, and equipped.

To fulfill the responsibilities and duties outlined below, it is expected that this position will require an average of 20 hours per week (Monday-Friday). There will also be certain seasons that will require additional hours for special projects. Anticipated time commitments include: Tuesday Staff Meetings (2-3 hrs) coordinating with staff and ministry leaders (1-3 hrs), graphic design (2-3 hrs), and preparing/publishing newsletter, social media, and other communications products.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

• Weekly Communications

  • Draft, schedule, and send weekly church-wide emails/newsletters

  • Manage and update church website content (events, ministry info)

  • Create and post content across social media platforms

  • Coordinate text/SMS alerts for announcements and urgent updates

• Event & Program Promotion

  • Design promotional materials for upcoming events (flyers, slides, social graphics)

  • Coordinate communication timelines for major events (VBS, retreats, holiday services)

• Content Creation

  • Write/edit copy for church communications in a consistent voice and style

  • Coordinate photography/video for services and events

  • Develop, organize, and maintain a media repository for existing and future image/video media

  • Manage sermon audio/video uploads and distribution

  • Maintain a content calendar across all channels

• Administrative Support

  • Serve as point of contact for staff/ministry leaders submitting communication requests

  • Track basic engagement metrics (open rates, click-throughs, social reach) and report monthly

  • Each year, prepare/update and submit a:

    • Ministry Plan

    • Budget Request

    • Schedule Request for rooms required for the ministry

  • Follow the ministry plan while managing expenditures within the approved budget

• Brand & Consistency

  • Develop and maintain a communications style guide (church branding standards, logo usage, colors, fonts)

  • Proofread materials before publication

  • Keep signage (physical and digital/lobby screens) current

• Occasional/As-Needed

  • Support crisis/emergency communications (closures, weather, etc.)

  • Help onboard ministry leaders on communication tools/templates

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Church member or willing to become one.

2. Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)

3. 2+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or content creation — church/nonprofit setting preferred but not required

4. Proficiency with social media platforms and basic content scheduling tools

5. Experience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar)

6. Working knowledge of design tools (Canva, Adobe Express, or similar) for graphics and print materials

7. Basic website content management (updating pages, posting events) - WordPress or similar CMS

8. Basic photo/video editing for short-form content

9. Strong written communication skills — clear, warm, on-brand tone for a faith-based audience

10. Attention to detail for proofreading and consistency across platforms

11. Self-directed and able to manage a project calendar with minimal supervision

12. Collaborative - able to gather content/updates from ministry leaders, staff, and volunteers on deadline

13. Organized, deadline-driven, comfortable juggling multiple simultaneous communication channels

14. Graphic design beyond entry level

15. Physical ability to do tasks associated with this position. For example, ability to lift and move 40 lbs. (like a case of bottled water) or to lift, move and set up tables and chairs.
