Clinical Nurse Educator Overview The Clinical Nurse Educator assists with educational needs assessment, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of unit-based clinical education for primary staff in assigned clinical areas. The educator will support all unit based educational activities such as onboarding new personnel, in-service education and continuing education programs for UMC Acute Care departments. Responsibilities Assist with coordination, development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical education in assigned areas. Serve as a resource to nursing staff, nursing students, and other healthcare personnel for acquisition of knowledge and skills related to nursing competency and critical thinking. Collaborate with the Department of Nursing Education & Professional Development and unit department director/manager to oversee clinical training and patient safety initiatives. Model excellence in nursing practice and assist new graduates and hires during orientation, providing clinical expertise to support competency. Provide oversight of new clinical practices, reinforce current practices and processes, and establish competency when appropriate. Assist nursing staff with clinical decision‑making and prioritization, utilizing critical thinking skills. Collaborate with clinical staff nurses, unit directors/managers, the Department of Nursing Education & Professional Development, and other health‑care team members to ensure clinician performance meets evidence‑based standards, thereby maintaining patient safety and quality. Act with vision and purpose, foster teamwork, communicate effectively and openly, and comply with all hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and programs. Participate in departmental and hospital committees and meetings, and special projects to facilitate improvement of patient care technology and develop goals and objectives for the unit’s patient population. Maintain current knowledge, generate new knowledge, and integrate evidence‑based practices into all educational initiatives. Participate in and support research activities and quality‑improvement initiatives. Act as a change agent: introduce and support new ideas, embrace meaningful change, communicate the vision for change, develop programs to educate staff and help staff cope with change, and provide leadership in the professional practice setting. Demonstrate energy, excitement, and a passion for quality work. Qualifications Three years of prior clinical experience. Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related health‑care field. Licenses and Certifications Licensed Registered Nurse through the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. American Heart Association Basic Life Support/CPR.
