Role Description The Medical Assistant role at Stony Brook Medicine is a full-time, on-site position located in Smithtown, NY. The Medical Assistant supports providers and care teams by performing clinical and administrative tasks, such as preparing exam rooms, taking vital signs, documenting patient histories, and assisting with procedures. Responsibilities include coordinating patient flow, updating electronic health records, managing supplies, and supporting patient education and instructions. The role requires close collaboration with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care for patients in an outpatient setting. Qualifications Clinical support skills, including taking vital signs, assisting with exams and procedures, and performing basic clinical tasks under supervision. Administrative and documentation skills, including scheduling, patient check-in/check-out, and accurate use of electronic health records. Communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary care teams. Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks, maintain patient flow, and manage supplies in a busy clinical environment. Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and adherence to infection prevention and regulatory standards. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent training; certification as a Medical Assistant preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
